I am not sure if there has already been a thread on this but I was wondering what your best televised golf event ever was and why -

Mine was watched through the rose tinted specs of youth but the 1988 Open, with the last round (threeballs) on a Monday (had to bunk of school cough, cough), Seve shooting 65 to beat Nick Price by 1 was fantastic, the standard of golf was amazing, it had that matchplay feel that all good last days should have, Faldo was in the mix but dropped out early, and Seve and Nick played shot for shot from there on in. It left Seve needing to get up and down at 18 to win, and he almost holed it (it was Seve afterall) sheer perfection.

The only other events that comes close for me are the 1985 and 1987 Ryder cups they were just a cavalry charge of european brilliance.

I think Seve winning is a good shout as he was and still is my number 1 golfing icon. Other than that I think any Ryder Cup win has had something special about it over the three days and I enjoyed Faldo grinding down and catching Norman at the Masters

1995 Ryder Cup @ Oak Hill.

Faldo getting up and down from 100yds on the 18th after holing a snaky 6 footer.

Philip Walton looking as though he wanted to cry as he just closed his match out and Seve and Faldo crying at each other.

Shows what the Ryder Cup can do to these supposedly emotionless automotrons, classic TV

Totally agree, i was in the same boat but during my school holidays ( a few weeks earlier in Scotland)

For me the Suntory World matchplay was thee event of the year, 1988 when Lyle beat Faldo was the highlight for me.

Els in the mid 90's was fab to watch too.

Its such a shame the event is not what it used to be, Wentworth in autum is such a stunning course.
