Been to a number of tournaments but it's hard to say I've witnessed absolutely brilliant shots. Hard to be at the right place at the right time.

A number do stick out in my mind.

Being only feet away from jose maria olazabal hitting a stinger 4iron into the wind and rain at portrush during the irish open. Ball went fizzing away low and online. Couldn't help but ask what club he hit and he showed me the bottom of the club with a little smile.

Tiger playing the 18th at hoylake. We were standing up the left side about 100yards from the tee. The sky camera man feet away says... watch this, this is coming over our heads.
Sure as a bear tiger rips a 5 wood stinger and crowd collectively ducks and oooohs as the ball fizzed by our heads.

The best shot I've seen was the very first ball I seen hit at the open. Arrived greenside to find chris wood in a world of pain. Short sided and I'm thinking, he will do well to get this anywhere on the green. Opens up the face, throws in way in the air. Down it comes and into the hole. Robbery.

Playing in a NE 'v' NW at Hesketh GC back in the late 80's. Pairs in the morning. All square, stood on the 17th tee, a par 5 dogleg left with a wood starting a couple of hundreds yards off the tee, running down the left edge of the fairway. To the left of that was the par 4 18th hole, with the green not too far away from the 17th tee.

My playing partner hooked onto the 18th fairway. When we got to his ball he asked should he wedge back onto the 17th fairway, avoiding the wood or fire a mid iron over it, further down the 17th fairway. I replied, stuff that take out your 3 wood and fire through the gap in the trees either side of the 18th tee and straight at the 17th green. It was right on the limit with no margin for error. He finished less than a foot off the green. An easy birdie, and 1 up going down 18.

Tiger driver off the deck on the 14th at St Andrews on the final day of the 200 Open. Swing was so fast it was a blur.

Also that week I saw him hit a couple of 2 iron stingers. The sound off the clubface was so different to every other player, just incredible ball striking. Seen / heard Dustin Johnson doing the same at RSG, and I'm sure many today hit it so well, but Tiger was the most impressive because 20 years ago he stood out from the others a mile.
