Ok i'll set the sceane.
Wasn't going to play at all today but the sun came out and it was lovely at 11 this morning. Dragged the B.I.L out of bed and headed up to Old Padeswood in North Wales. (RGUK will know it)
Started lashing down just as we pulled up, couldn't believe it, never the less we got out, kitted up and headed for the first. It stopped raining, bonus!
'So match play then james' thinking I would have a few 7's and 8's and still maybe able to beat him. (he's usually a solid 15 handicap, where as I'm lucky to be shooting 18's at the mo)
So I got us started and unleashed a great drive on the most difficult tee on the course. Split the fairway and thought, I hope it continues. I proceded to fat a 7 and take a bogey 5 on the first.
Then what followed for the majority of the round was unreal, for me anyway. I found the tempo I have been seeking for so long and finally, my swing was in to out producing nice draws, ALL ROUND.
I parred the second, par 5. Parred the 3rd, par 4. Birdied the 4th, par 3. Parred the 5th, par 4. and then shot a double, par, par, double to finish 4 over going out.
The back nine continued to be kind, but not for long. I shot Par, Par, Double Par, Double, Double, Triple, bogey, Par to come home in 45, 9 over. Total 85 gross for a par 72. I played to 13. My short game was almost inch perfect all day. Iron play was outstanding my shots off the tee well, I hit 14 fairways(did only use the driver 6 times.)
Did I mention I won the match play 8&7
Anyone want to know the secret to my succes? I'll tell you anyway. Realgolferuk, AKA Dave. Thanks to him, I now play my golf totaly different, he doesn't know it but he has taught me a valuable lesson, and that is, play safe and only take your chances when they come. Be happy to make pars and the birdies will pop up.
I used to always reach for my driver and 3 wood on Par 5's. One of my best holes today was a 4 iron off the tee, and 2 7's on for regulation and an easy 2 putts. It beats playing out side ways and hitting the green in 5 and taking a 7 or 8.
I'm sure I'll have a reality check tommorow, but it does feel good to play well for a change.
The reason I am still slightly dissapointed, is because on the 15th, a 3 ball infront completely messed up my game by messing about in front. I think I could of possibly shot and 80 today if it wasn't for the guy infront running out infront of us as we were playing and then taking an age to clear the greens etc.
Anyway, sorry its been a long one guys/gals. I'm over the moon
