Major work going on at the club and 8 and 9 now closed - they were trippling the size of the lake but the director went out a couple of weeks ago and decided that that was not enough - so we now have it going right up the left of the green, an island being made in the middle with trees etc and it going across part of the 8th fairway - can't wait to see 9 when finished as this will be a major change! 10 is nearly finished but the green will also probably not be in play until April due to the turf bedding in

3 grand a year for a 16 hole course? Bargain.

Yes, I know it will be nice, but it already was, and at some point they have to stop tinkering with it.

It is going to look great when it is finished Paul. The 9th definitely needed the lake bringing into play, although I am not sure I will be saying that after topping a few balls into it.:( At least if there are only 16 holes in play, you should be able to break 90 now.

I agree that the 9th needed a tweak (well in my humble opinion anyway) and I can't wait to see it fully reopened and in its new glory. Its a fantastic course and the way you are treated even as a visitor is top notch.

The 9th will be a completely new hol - agree it was crying out for wok although I still think it was a decent hole, with a good valley of sin in front of the green.
Breaking 90 Rich may still prove difficult!!:) Not been very focused and a lack of play. Looking forward to HFH at your place

Out of interest, what would the chances of a GM mini (or major) meet at Bearwood later in the year?
I will do my best to see if I can get 3 tee times like last year at guest rate. A bigger meet would cost too much. Will see how things are in the summer - if you fancy a game Martin after late April just let me know

Definitely - much obliged

I played in sept (courtesy of Srixon/Cleveland), probably just before the major stuff started, and I thought the changes were looking like a definite improvement (11 for instance seemed to be crying out for the fairway bunkers from my view).

Would be very interested in another chance to play sometime after the holes are back in play.

Changes are looking good Paul. It will be interesting to see them "in the flesh" the next time I can get up to give you a hammering! As you know, I love playing the course, but unfortunately only got to play it the once last year due to the boys not visiting their grandparents in Reading quite so often. Little buggers!! Must put that right this year. Are the stroke indices staying the same or will they be altered to take the additional difficulty into account? I would imagine that first hole plays a lot different off the back tee. Can't remember what the stroke index is, but I know I didn't shot down there in the Trilby tour event so it must be reasonably high. That looks like it's going to be a toughie to start on, especially from the black tee.

looking forward to your next visit Rob as my collection of crisp fivers has become lonely! The first is really tough from the back - I have only ever played it into the wind and never been on in 2 - in the club champs last year only a few people were putting for a birdie. Stroke indices will probably change although they might wait until 2013 before getting a review as there will be more changes from October on 12 onwards - the plans have not been released but from what I have been told: 12 - tees raised 1 metre, the trees have been thinned out significantly behind the green and you now get more light and a nice view of the lake, 13, bunker front left of green, which will also mean closing and reconstructing a chunk of the green, 14 - I think I heard a bunker mentioned - they must have overcome the initial no-bunker objection on these 2 holes from Bearwod college. 15 - there are going to be some mature trees down the left, 16 - big changes here - tees being raised a chunk so you can clearly see the fairway, fairway bunkers left and right, front left greenside bunker and a continuation of the fairway through the valley short of the green; 17 - trees have already been pruned on right and the fairway widened on that side - you give on one hand and take away with the other as there will be an extra bunker down the right slightly past the one on the left, circa 250, so you won't need to worry!:D 18 - the big debate continues about what to do in the valley short of the green - I think they have given up on the idea of water but you never know - I would like to see a bunker at the far end with the valley full of the slut caled Heather! How is the application going for Crowborough?

Colin - thanks for joining forces - you, Martin and I should have a knowck when Martin comes out of hibernation and look at what we can do date wise and see what the club will allow - might be that we could do a late afternoon on Sunday for a few tee times - maybe 3.30 onwards when it can be quiet in the summer?
