Golf is a physical activity but it isn't exactly strenuous. It's not really getting your heart rate up is it? It's not increasing cardiovascular endurance or strengthening muscle mass so I'd suggest the doctor knows what he's talking about.

Again, there is an age related component to this.
Well, it's all relative. If you're a tri athlete then no Golf isn't going to scratch the surface. But if you sit on a chair from 9-5 Monday to Friday then absolutely golf will have cardiovascular benefits and muscular strengthening benefits. Anyone that thinks a 6 mile walk isn't exercise at any age is wrong. Especially with 10kg on your back

Golf is a good part of getting out and leading an activity lifestyle combined with a good diet and some other forms of exercise.
It's not going to help someone lose any pounds but it's a good part of somebody's overall programme.
I play squash competitively 2 or 3 times a week which is intense cardio but my golf round every 1-2 weeks will also contribute.

Like one of my (larger) colleagues says, however slow he's going on his runs, he's still lapping those sat on the sofa!

Back on the OP's topic though - you couldn't have written that. Hilarious
Why isn't going to help someone lose a few pounds? On average a male burns a 100 calories a mile. So 600 calories of golf is equivalent to a one hour jog
