Balls - How many?

Played around 40 qualifiers this year ... probably 20 club match rounds too ... and and maybe 30 non-competitive rounds. Usually use a new ball for competitive games, but sometimes a ball will remain pristine for more than one round!

I'm still using balls from 2 yrs ago, and I've given away/sold lots of balls during that I'm not gonna use. Over winter anything from the bag is used, and hence the new ones stay new for maybe four months of the year. I don't lose that many balls .... many of them are in the lakes so they aren't lost, as I know exactly where they are !!

Am I the only one that hasn't got a clue?

I'm going to take advantage of the Titleist offer next year if they run it again so I'll start April with 4 dozen and see how long they last.

I always start a comp round with a new ball, and if I don't lose it will be used for practice rounds or as a provisional.

LOL well mine was a total guess- could be less, could be more (god I hope not)

Nope same here.

Bought 333 tours on the 4 for 3 offer, but have no idea how many I bought before that or how long they lasted.

I never play with pickups either they go straight in practice bag if any good or I leave them for someone else if rubbish balls.

Play 1-3 times a week, depends on course if I lose any.

Difficult to say but I bought three dozen Hex Chrome beginning of last year and still have a box left. I do hit the ball reasonably straight so don't lose too many. Sometimes a ball can last many rounds, sometimes I'll lose two a round.
I'll also use pick-ups in bounce games and have found some quite good ones during our round (that's the good thing about our course, you find a better class of ball )

When Mizuno first realised their MPS Ball, I was lucky enough to win 3 dozen courtesy of GM and Mizuno.

The 3 dozen lasted about a season and half.

I lose a lot... I'm pretty impatient(and rubbish) so if it's a knock and I don't find within about 30 seconds I just say forget it. Would estimate I'm over 72 balls for the year- probably nearer the 100 Mark.

This is me. I also play a course with 3 par 3 holes over water and they tend to suck a few balls over the year. I need to play a more forgiving course. One of those nice American ones the pro's play where it doesn't matter where you hit it you can always find it and hit it again.

I use the catch and release philosophy when playing golf. I catch or rather buy captive balls from various outlets and then I release them back into the wild where they'll hopefully live a long and sheltered life. I must have released thousands of captive balls over the years. Occasionally I'll find an injured wild ball, where I take it upon my self to clean and take care of it for a period of time, before once again releasing it back into the wild.

I'm so paranoid about being out and running out of balls I generally keep at least 18 in the bag at any given moment. I think realistically though I get through 4-5 dozen a year.

I like to start every round with a brand new ball.

all the balls I have used don't get reused, and I lose maybe one ball a round...

Playing 8 times a month that means 16 balls

And? Do the little buggers ever show any gratitude for all the good you do them?

All the competitions for prizes of a year's supply of balls state that number to be 6 dozen.
Would that last you a year?
More?
Less?
How often do you buy balls.

I purchased a dozen Chromesoft and a dozen ProV1x before last year's H4H...
Half way through the Chromesoft and haven't touched the ProVs...
I do use "finds" if they're good enough - and often find a couple a round so that may account for me not being a ball manufacturers dream......
i use a new ball in comps and use them after that just for a knock .
reckon this year I have used 12 dozen prov 1s.
Three a week is about right .

Very impressive how many balls most people don't seem to lose, jealous.

Wow , I play on average probably 3 times a week throughout the summer, once a week during the winter, sometimes more if the weathers not to bad, if my memory serves me well I've lost maybe 6-8 balls this year, mind you that's not including the evening when stood on a tee I had a temper tantrum and lamped the entire contents of the ball pocket of my bag into the farmers field (driver issues) but I don't class that as lost balls, more of a 'your services are no longer required' thing...

Do you play on a dry open field with no water? Or play to plus 10?

At my level I accept I'll lose a ball every other round or so in summer due to rough being up and nit finding all 14 fairways.

I started the year with 3 dozen. There's 15 left, and of the 21 gone there's at least a dozen relegated to the practice bag. Usually lose very few but Murcar has some tight fairways, especially on the front 9.
