At your Club, who has advance or preferential tee times......???

It seems at our course that the self-employed brickies, carpet-fitters, taxi drivers, gas /heating engineers have priority (and their mates) judging on the number of them on a Sunday before 10.00. :)

At my club its all the committee. So that's 13 guys(slots) out of 197 slots each week in the summer, 120 slots in the winter. And if its a half decent committee they will be giving xx hours free of charge every week and you are begrudging them a tee time each... 7 mins of your time!!!!!!!

Last week I gave 15 hours free of charge to the club, the week before the same, and this week it was (is because I'll probably put in at least 4 hours tomorrow) 16 hours. And next week, as we ramp up towards the AGM, I'll probably put in at least something in the region of 20 hours at the club. I'll will also spend upwards of 6 hours on the finanace report and the same finishing the rewrite of the HR policy then meeting with our Solicitor. Those are just the hours, and then add in the stress of balancing the HR needs with the HMRC sign off...

Add to that I've done about 380 miles, free of charge for the club, to attend two green's meetings this week, and will do 180 miles next week to do the same... and in 14 years I've taken advantage of my 'priviledge' about 10 times out of 700+ opportunities...

Several years ago I was putting in a hell of a lot more as Club Captain, and have turned down the opportunity 3 times in the last 4 years to be Captain for the 2nd time - a rare priviledge and opportunity.

At the vast majority of clubs the committee members are also putting in time(read money & stress) and sweat doing something similar.

Seriously, some of you need to get a better understanding of what's involved in running a £750,000+ business before you start bumping your gums....

Breathe in, hold 2,3,4 and relax...

I think you need to breathe a little more.

On the one hand there's a world of difference between privileges granted and privileges used in such circumstances - and on the other such privileges rather detract from the 'free of charge' tag too.

I don't think anyone would have any issue with any hard working committee member being seen to be given preferential treatment from time to time, but in the context of this thread the concept of such widespread and widely used ones would appear to indicate a marked lack of respect for the general membership (as much as anything else).

In many instances the Captain's tee time will have been established around club actions eg Captain & Pro charity games, games with local Councillors and even opportunities for the Captain to discuss the course with the Chairman of the Greens Committee!

The situation outlined in the OP seems to me to represent an abuse of such privilege.

At my old club, weekend tee times were issued on a "first come first serve" basis,in fact some people had the same tee time they chose when the club opened in 1991 !!!
New members basically had to play mid afternoon or hope that somebody died in an earlier group.

Are you actually saying the everyone has their "own" tee time??

How the heck do they get new members?

Seems to me that there's a hell of a lot of people in and around Golf Clubs that take their existence far too seriously and actually believe they are the centre of the Universe.
So glad I don't belong to some of the clubs mentioned in this thread.......

This was never explained to me before i joined, when i complained that i didn't have a tee time i was told to turn up early morning, and hope that somebody didn't !!
Needless to say i didn't play in very many saturday comps. Not only is it totally unfair to new members,it is also open to abuse.

Name and Shame!

Not surprised it is your "old" club

Lovely true story about a new municipal course who were interviewing for a professional in the 1970's.
The candidates were asked to devise a booking system to show at the interview.

One of the questions was. If the tees were all booked on a Saturday morning and the Chairman of the recreation comittee turned up with an important visiting VIP what would you do.

Six of them said that they would be able to squeeze them in somehow.
One candidate said that he would apologise as the course was fully booked and then congratulate the Chairman on the Council's foresite to build such a successful golf course.
He got the job and retires this week after 40 years of brilliant service.
