As anyone one here will testify, this is a very friendly forum and I can personally say that it is by far the best forum that I've been a member of.

However, it has had it's fair share of heid the ba's, (as any forum does), but the members have made their feelings quite clear to the parties involved.

We've also had some spammers (advertising, promoting websites etc) and these people have also been given a short shrift.

I have noticed that a couple of new members recently have been including websites in their first posts here and they are probably quite genuine in their postings, but a little bit of me can't help thinking that by including a website in your very first post you are leaving yourself open to accusations of promotion/advertising and I have to admit, as sson as I see a plug for a website from someone with 1 post, I tend to scan over that particular post.(however genuine the poster may be)

If no-one else feel this way and think that I'm out of order then I'm sorry, but I felt I had to mention it.

Regards as always,

Atticus.

I am right beside you Atticus. If you want to advertise on the GM web site, have the decency to follow the proper channels and pay for it like all the other sponsors. I am sure Mike and the folks behind this community would appreciate the extra revenue.

You're not out of order at all. I agree.

If there is another reason for signing up, other than enjoying the threads, it would be wise to hide your cards.

In reality, the good folk on here are pretty wise to dodgy practises....we're a canny lot!

A-F, well said.
I think that anyone including a website has to be completely upfront as to their purpose.
There have been a couple of occasions when posters have given sites which have been well received (the Orka guy was one, but then he did so in response to a specific query). It's the thinly disguised promotional sites - particularly when it's overpriced and/or shoddy equipment - that I dislike.

AF, totally in agreement with you. I have a website for my business but have never plugged it and never will. It is available in my profile and that is where it shall stay, I wouldn't dream of putting it on the board for free advertising. Most people on the forum know what business I am in and anybody who has any queries about anything automotive is free to PM me for any help/info/advice.

You are damn right to make a point about people cynically posing as new golfers who are actually interested in making a meaningful contribution to this forum when in fact they are on occasions no more than self-abusers looking for a bit of free advertising.

Good on you pal!

Agreed, I am more than happy to dish out the odd bit of legal advice when needed but would never use the forum as a means of advertising. I only give the same sort of advice that I would give to anyone that I was chatting to in the clubhouse.
