Even Tubes would beat Rick the way he has played recently.
I thought he'd improved since their last match. I saw his two recent rounds in his 'getting a handicap' series this year and he played well in both.Even Tubes would beat Rick the way he has played recently.![]()
I’d back Jimmy to win as well. Rick has done a lot of time working on speed and upping his long game but his short game is absolutely crap. For someone of his standard he makes a hash of chipping and anything around the green.I thought he'd improved since their last match. On https://handicap-tracker.com/ they have him at +1.3 now which is much lower than he used to be. For a long time last year he was around scratch.
Edit: They have Jimmy at +3.5!![]()
Yeah, totally. I've never seen another scratch player duff it as much as him over the years. Jimmy says his chipping is crap, but he actually does ok with that claw-grip, I think he just holds himself to a higher standard than Rick does. And rightly so.I’d back Jimmy to win as well. Rick has don’t a lot of time working on speed and upping his long game but his short game is absolutely crap. For someone of his standard he makes a hash of chipping and anything around the green.
So the guy has a perfect swing and this has enabled him to win 1 single PGA Tour event. Shows you what a hard game this is.I’ve been going down the TPi channel rabbit hole recently. Just finding so many of their assessments working directly with players coaches fascinating.
Some really interesting ones recently and how the Joel Dahmen one where they found he literally has perfect sequencing, wouldn’t change a thing in his swing set up, nothing in his technique and no requirement for speed training. His flaws being though he’s extreme athletic and exceeds all top players flexibility, it simply showed he is not strong enough within in his body. Massively highlights he’s playing and swinging so far above what his actual physical limits are. They recommended the only thing he does is work on getting stronger whilst making no changes to his swing or sequence.
That’s literally what they were saying. He does everything his body and science tells him to do and does it naturally. He’s exceeding his own physical limitations all because he does every part of the swing at the exact right time every time. Problem is he’s just not strong enough to compete regularly at the top which means he doesn’t generate enough ball speed. But he’s already maxed out his speed potential so the only thing is he needs to add the strength to max his sequence and speed he already has.So the guy has a perfect swing and this has enabled him to win 1 single PGA Tour event. Interesting would like to see him play. There's a new lad called Bryan who hits balls over his house. I think he played for real back in the day.![]()

It only lasted that long as it was on in the background, if I had been watching it normally 4 holes and I’d have been out.10 holes is a long way into a video to give up.
I thought his golf improved? Didn’t he play a few under par rounds recently? Or was that just clickbait thumbnail?
I think I watched 1 of his this year where he was par or +-1, so it seemed to me he improved.
We know short game is Rick's weakness, so picking a tricky little hilly course with loads of elevation where you're likely to miss a few greens probably didn't work in his favour very much.Just tried to watch the Shiels v Bullard video, gave up after 10 holes. The chat between them was awful, the level of golf
on display was terrible.
Shiels short game is absolutely abysmal, the work he did with Dan Grieve you’d think he be able to pitch onto a green from 20 yards! It highlights how he’s made a career out of personality and being in the right place at the right time as his golf is woeful.
Bullard wasn’t any better, talk about chipping yips! I’ve never seen someone chip with a claw grip before! Genuinely one of the worst YouTube videos I’ve seen.
I’ve not watched much of his recent stuff as I’ve found it to be fairly poor quality of late in general with his videos. IMO his best stuff was the break 75 and the 3 ball challenges with Guy and James Robinson (tour pro not the other muppet of the same name). Still someone at his level playing in front of a camera I’d expect him to be able to hit a green from less than 20yds. On 2 of the holes he was basically greenside yes with some elevation but on both those holes it took him 3 attempts to find the green. We know short game is Rick's weakness, so picking a tricky little hilly course with loads of elevation where you're likely to miss a few greens probably didn't work in his favour very much.
I also think he looked a bit nervy on the front nine - you could tell when he played Jimmy the first time and lost, it hurt him a lot. I think he underestimated Jimmy and saw it as losing at his own game to a footballer essentially. So he'll have been desperate for a bit of revenge this time. So maybe got in his own head once or twice.
Although it looks horrendous, Jimmy actually does surprisingly alright with his claw chipping.
