YouTubers.

After 1 round I have to say it is a nice looking course.

My bag managed to photo bomb one of his shots.. he cut out our chat lol can't blame him. I do appear from 250 yards in a hivi just before my bag appears tho. Oh and randomly again when he putts in on 9

I've been playing away at other courses past month and it makes you appreciate what we have / are even more

Watching Peter Finch try and make the cut for the PGA I found myself wondering whether a decent low-mid handicap golfer is closer to his ability than he is to the very top pros - at what level does that balance tilt one way or the other.

The only comparison I have is that YouTube handicap tracker site that I've linked before. They have him as around a +3 and Bryson at +9. Wes Bryan around +6. So based on that he's not miles away, but then the difference between just one shot when you're in the pluses must be extremely hard to find.

As an example , over the last ten years I have played in Pro Am alongside the levels of golfer like Peter Finch and the guys that play in the PGA - their scores aren’t great and a few times I have beaten them

Most of them are guys that did the PGA pro course off a 1-4 HC , the lads that were decent club golfers but nowhere near good enough to be on the Pro tour so they qualify as a PGA pro

So they are imo a lot closer to your mid HC than they are to tour pros

You get the odd cracking local pro who doesn't make it but most are as good as the scratch golfers at your club..

For example my guy is off +4 and every year is top 3 in the order of merit for the region. However he's never got through euro pro tour but ability wise he's up there with James Robinson Ricks mate

Using the example of your pro...are you closer to him than he is to, say, a Ryder Cup player.

How many quests for Open thingys has Finch done now?
Making it to final qualifying was great - does he drop it now, or is it a sufficient interest maker to go again?

I think if he wants to go again, his living is filming, so he'll film it.

I enjoy his channel and I'd have liked to have seen him through.

Given the calibre of the other players his chances of getting to the actual Open are pretty miniscule
I think even he would admit that.
I think he's gone as far as he can with qualifying, maybe the fans will want him to do it again but the risk of repeating content is high...

It just shows the gulf in class between these guys, even when they look superb on their channels!!

@larmen watched the entire video now. Felt he played far too many irons off tees instead of mini driver or driver to really give him that chance to push the scoreboard.. I mean 1st round using an iron off the tee was mental on the first par 5. Didn't given himself the chance of getting the eagle

This.

I've not played in many Pro Am's but in the few I've played I've shot lower than the actual pro and felt a bit sorry for them.

I know one pro who plays 25-30 Pro-Ams a year and he makes about a grand in prize money. When you take away the entry fees he's losing serious money and it's also stopping him from earning money in the pro shop or from coaching. I do respect him for putting himself out there and trying to improve as a lot don't bother once they're fully qualified.

They are no shiels tho.. who guy can out drive...

The best thing about Rick these days is seeing him play with genuine big hitters and his claims of 320+ drives vanish as he's often 50+ behind them. His swing then reaches such a speed in order to compete he barely manages to hit the face or square his hands.

Can someone explain to me about Pro-Ams pls.

When I see them advertised on Golf Empire they all seem v expensive (irrespective of the quality / cost of the course they’re being held at)..

What’s the incentive for the Pro to enter, what’s the economics for the PGA Pro, in terms of cost, reward and incentives….and for the amateurs, what’s the incentives and advantages of it?

Pro Ams that I play are all at local clubs in the PGA east area

They are all club pros or assistant pros registered with the PGA

When they play the winners get around £1k and then it filters down , ams that win get prizes like bags etc
