Nope the 7 iron was a 3 quarter swing shot so it would be a PW for a 220 yard shot.

To be honest, my favourite distance/club changes every time I play!

P.S. My least favourite would be 4 feet with a putter, I probably make about 1 in 5 of those at best!

Knowing this, you'd think I should be able to plan my way around a course to suit this approach but as I step out onto the course billy big balls appears and I think I can land in on the pin from 200 yards. Bloody typical high handicapper

Anything from 100 yards in. 80 is ideal for my 52 degree wedge and I have oodles of confidence with this club

155-160 - 8 iron

As long as I'm not between clubs then I'm pretty comfortable with most approach shots 180 YRDS and under.

Your handicap would indicate that comfort doesn't necessarily equate to results!

I can sympathise. My conversion from my favourites (80 or 100) are abysmal!

Following on from Bob's thread re your short game I'd be interested to know what everyone's favourite approach shot distance is and also club - I'm talking 2nd shot on an average Par 4 or simply the distance and club you're really comfortable with (putter and 1ft not allowed ). I don't wish for this to be a 'my dads bigger than your dad' kind of thread, just curious to know whether the 7i, 8i, 9i or PW wins the day?

Personally, I love to have the PW in my hand for a 115ish approach but am also really at ease with my 8i for anything 135 to 145.

Surely its got to be one yard off the green, much better than 135 yards

About a 75 yard 3/4 pitch with a SW or a smooth PW from 110 yards.

100 yards seems to be an awkward distance for me for some reason, lack of practice being the obvious reason of course!!

My new fav is around 80 yards, 3/4 52 wedge. i cant believe how close to the pin i have been getting it! although i am also enjoying around 160 yards, not as close to the pin,but hitting a decent amount of greens from this range!

Either 135yds with an easy 8 iron or 80yds with a full swing gap wedge works for me

I tend to try and leave 75-80 which is an easy swing with 60 degree wedge which I would hope to get inside 10ft

Anywhere between 90 and 120, either a hard 52 or a gentle PW for me. Love playing from that distance.

I always like to have a wedge in my hand and don't mind the distance really as long as it is around the following;
55-65 yards
85-110 yards

If it was any less than that then it is either a very short par 4 or I have just bombed the living daylights out of a drive...

Anything from 70-130 I'm pretty confident. Can make a shot from my 54,50 or pw for those distances.

Favourite 2nd shot into a par 4 would be 120 yard PW or 130 9 iron.

Favourite distance and iron would be a 190 4 iron from the fairway, which is pretty much my "go to" shot.
