I know how everyone goes on about Rory, Willett & Wood but If they could all putt like Rhys Davies they would all be multiple winners by now.
I know he is a little older than the others, 25 today, but I think this kid has a very big future.

Discuss.....

Watched him at the PGA at Wentworth. He looks about 11 stone soaking wet. His swing is far wilder than all the other young pros playing.
Can see him as a major contender, however, as another Welshie I would love to be proved wrong.

I take you meant "can't"?
i'm not so sure. let him settle into the tour for a couple of years.

Yes I did mean cant. Typing on my phone is never best. We shall discuss this further over a few jars Sat night as long as RickG lets us.

There are lots of youngsters finding their way including GM's Sam Hutsby and it is a learning curve. Some adapt better than others and some find their game doesn't stack up and disappear. Its the nature of the beast. I think Willett, Wood and Hutsby will do ok but that first win is so hard to get. Even McIlroy lost a few (he should have won) before making the breakthrough.

I think it's exciting that we have such a talented crop coming through.

I think Danny Willett is the real McCoy. His putting is sensational, didn't you see any of the BMW? I think he shot something like 21 birdies in 54 holes - hard to do if you can't putt! He shot 9 under par earlier in the year and has finished in the top 10 numerous times already. It appears pin hunting might be his downfall, you are always going to drop shots if you miss greens in bad places. I did notice that he went to Walton Heath for the US Open qualifying the day after the BMW and finished about 14th shooting 73,66 in a 36 hole event. Simon Khan also missed the cut.

The thing that worries me about Danny is that he picks the club up and sets it so quickly. It proved that when the adrenaline kicks in he gets even quicker and that pull hook comes out to play.

I'm not sure, with his swing, if it'll hold up to the pressure if he finds himself in contention on the last 9 of a major.

Always happy to be proved wrong, though.

I agree with Homer weve got a great crop of youngsters coming through.I think in the long run chris wood will have a better career than willet.I do like willetts gun ho style[birdies or boggies]but he will have to learn to control his game to start winning, imo.

Nearly all young players set the club early now, its a case of set and turn to the top, turn back through, simple and fairly maintenance free.

I agree with Ken Brown at the moment in relation to Willett. He is an awesome golfer however he has to cut out the "unforced" errors which he produces at the moment. Making bogies from the centre of fairways etc is a no no at the level he's playing at. I still think he'll win this year as he has soooo much talent.

Rhys Davies is another steady player, already a Tour Winner, so yip see no reason why he cant push on from this year as well. As has been pointed out he's a super putter.

I think it must have something to do with a certain club sponsor that they both share!

I know the early set is trendy - I had a pro trying to teach it to me last year.

But Danny has a very quick swing, and seems to set it even quicker than most - especially with the fairway shots. Which is what I think makes him miss so often when he's getting pumped up.

I'm no expert, but I can't see him winning until he can control his exuberance. I'm talking fractions of not a lot, but I can see it coming back to bite him until he can either control, or ignore, it.

Maybe it's not the early set, maybe it's just swing tempo. But put the two together and he's like a windmill on speed.

He seems to be a great guy, and put up with us lot at Walton Heath, so I want him to win more than any of the other guys out there. And I agree he has got fantastic talent.

But I think his 'unforced' errors are caused by that swing getting uncontrollable when the heat is on.

definately a great crop of youngsters coming through, hopefully in the next 5-10 years we are gonna go back to the golden era(like in the 80's) when the brits were winning majors every year! its been too long! i still reckon westwood is good for at least 1!

I've started thinking that maybe it's being the 'first' that he's finding hard to get over.

If one of the younger guys wins one, then maybe it'll take just that extra fraction of pressure off him, and then it could be the start of another golden era.

I think Dannys swing is pretty handy. Looks so effortless when you watch him.

He was telling me about what he's doing at the moment with his coach, he is making things simpler and working on only a couple of specific movements rather than too many at the same time.

He's happy that what he is doing is imroving his swing, he's also on a very strict diet and is working closely with a personal trainer, he has bulked up a bit since I first saw him in a mag and he is a very powerful player.

I think its just a case of being new to it all and being very hungry. Chasing pins is an aggresive style and one that will no doubt see him win on the week when it all comes together. He will learn in time what he is doing wrong.

His coach Malcom is a fantastic fella and has been on bags for about 25 years. Think Torrence was his last man.

His putting is actually very very good!

Wont be long till he is a winner!

I agree that Danny's skills are fantatic, but he missed A LOT of easy shots to the greens, when he is obviously in a very good run of form.

With someone like him, it's not a case of maximising his opportunities, it's a case of minimising his errors. EG losing 3 shots in two holes on the 8th and 9th at Wentworth when he approached from perfect position with a wedge and a 7I respectively. Those shots weren't down to the pressure, they were simple swing errors.

When he can remove those errors, he'll run away with tournament after tournament.
