Re: Would you carry if there is a trolley ban

Only have a cart bag at the moment, so no, I would not carry. Dont want to lay the bag down, as if its wet enough for a trolly ban it would get my bag muddy!!!

Gave my wife my stand bad, so will be on the look out for a new one.

EDIT: had to vote no, as won't carry at the moment, and no option in-between haha

Although a torn back muscle has put me out of playing for the next month or two anyway ! :(

Re: Would you carry if there is a trolley ban

We currently have a trolley ban. The course is far too wet to have wheels on it. There are no exemptions for medical reasons.

I am perfectly happy to carry, but can only manage a half set due to a dodgy lower back and being a bit weak. It doesn't noticeably affect my scores, indeed I had one of my best comps of the year while lugging 8 clubs.

It seems a bit poor to close the course because some members will complain if there's a trolley ban.

I carry in winter for ease of getting round. And course protection. Q

Just done 18 this afternoon. Shattered. Roll on trolley weather!

I would carry but injury problems with legs and feet would mean only playing 6 or 7 holes and a shoulder injury means only about 6 clubs in the bag.

I use a buggy normally and the nearly continuous rain has meant an awful lot of buggy bans.

The club has introduced 'no go' areas for trolleys and buggies within 20 yards of the green to reduce the amount of wear.

I've had to invest in a light carry bag, just for the trolley ban that might appear. Only carry a half set maximum as the back isnt up to a full set.

At previous club i once had a motion at AGM to ban trolleys from end Nov through end Feb (course was built on clay and got very very muddy). Three Line whip went out to seniors to attend. Record number of members on the night - nearly 220 I recall. Vote in favour 5...vote against 215.

I wasn't that bothered as me; head greenkeeper and chairman has discussed beforehand and the chairman put forward the compromise that any decision to ban trolleys on any day would be for the Head Greenkeeper - he had the authority, and guess the strategy he took. Yup - lots of days trolleys were banned. And most members including seniors played and carried unless a medical certificate was provided that said any form of carrying was not possible for the individual.

So lets get this right, the head greenkeeper advises against trolleys because it could damage the course, but if you have a medical certificate to hell with the damage, they can use them!

I'm sorry but that's just stupid, a medical certificate shouldn't supersede a decision in the interest of the course, if they can't carry then they can get in the queue later at the butchers.....:smirk:

I'm super strong at the moment - I carry.....bag and trolley!! 😂

I would carry. However if a course is too wet for a trolley I'd have to question whether I'd actually want to be playing on a clearly sodden course. I'd think working on parts of my game would be a better use of time. I get the frustration of the OP where it's open or closed. Surely there would be middle ground, even if it was muddy and wet to give members a chance to play

Always carry in winter .
Half set , Alternate odd irons and even irons weekly ,learn knock down shots , Shots you would not normally play.
its easier to get from A to B as I don’t have to walk around the roped off areas for trolleys.

Had the pencil bag out with no ban 👍 driver 6 iron, 9 iron and 54 cbx oh and putter ideal. Bought a new #4up stadry for the odd event today save walking round the ropes with a trolley

Re: Would you carry if there is a trolley ban

Have carried twice recently, first time was when I left my battery at home and the other was when one of the older guys in the 4ball forgot to charge his battery up and wouldn't have been able to play, so I let him have my trolley. It is a bit of a slog in the winter up the hills in the boggy ground.

No issues in carrying my clubs. Usually stow the trolley in the loft for the winter to help reduce wear and tear on the course.
