I don't know why it annoys me so much but I really don't like golf courses being call "tracks".

Finally, thank god it’s not just me.

I do imagine it's just the two of us though, I've never found anyone else that it annoys!

A new group of playing pals kept on with " oh that’s a nice little track ", I’ve always thought it sounded strange, and coming from a motorsport background could never associate my perception of the word "track" with a golf course. I have always said "Nice course", "Tight course", "Punishing course" etc etc etc.

But as much as I hate the term "track", its bloody growing on me and every time i say it i hear a voice in my head saying it doesn’t sound right!

I don't have that problem, I never say it, I certainly won't start saying something because I hear others say it.

I don't like other "colourful metaphors" either:

"Go on get the big dog out!"
"what? I don't own a dog."
"Nah, you know, get the big dog out!",
"Are you asking me to show you my p3n15?",
"What? You some kinda weirdo or sumfink [grrr...] mate?",
"No, I just have no idea what you're on about."
"Your driver, I'm asking you to use your driver!",
"Oh, why didn't you say so? 5-iron for me I think..."

It annoys me when the Tour Professionals, during interviews, referring to "the Golf Course" or " the Golf Ball".

Quite right. my current course all summer would fairly reffered to as a track, suitable to walking donkeys, horses ponies and such like animals.

Some of the other phrases that have been quoted in previous replies, i'm afraid, I use. I haven't really thought about them too much, I guess i just get carried along with corporate exec bollox and end up using some of the phrases myself. I will make an effort to try and be myself.

After giving the worst news to 20% of my staff recently, i've had a belly full of modern society.
I have worked with some of these people for 20+ years and they are treated like a piece of meat. Sorry to go off on one but had to get it off my chest
