Words and phrases you hate.

My pet hate is when people don't know the difference between using "Me" and "I" and the order it is used.
They say something like "Me and Johnny..." instead of "Johnny and I..."

Me too - Greg Wallace on Masterchef does it all the time and it infuriates me!

Grammar DOESN'T get any tougher than this!

Pretty simple basic stuff.
You don't say "Me did it." You say "I did it." And when you introduce others into the phrase, you always put yourself last, so it becomes "Johnny, and I did it."

That is good. :) I never knew the reason. Just goes to show what they don't teach you at school.

No, it was a parody of Greg's regular quote on Maste... never mind...

When someone some one walks to my desk and says ‘I have sent you an e-mail’

Why bother sending an e-mail if you are going to walk over and tell me about whatever it is anyway.

it's the same as those who phone you to tell you they have sent one - it's all about him showing you how important he is as you'll now drop everything to attend to him.

it's on a par with those who see that you are holding a conversation at your desk but phone from across the office anyway.

We have an amnesty on this one. 99% of the time, if someone comes up and says they've sent an email, it's safe to presume
a) they didn't expect or want to see you but
b) now you're here (together) it makes sense to talk it through.

I suspect we save 1,000s of man-hours discussing the contents of an email sent not expecting to see that person - it's quicker and more efficient generally to talk rather than type, so everyone's a winner.

I've given up being mad about this. My typing is slow, so I'm all for discussing it there and then, even if it makes the email redundant.

I prefer emails even if someone's just spoken to me about something.

It stops me forgetting what they wanted me to do without the risk of me losing a note that I don't want to write in the first place.

Yes, I'm happy with both, as you say, it's great to keep the email for future reference. Might explain why I have 3,000 in my inbox and live on the search button!

"When you've got the John Terrys / Steven Gerrards / Wayne Rooneys of the world" What ? Everyone called John Terry ? It's not the John Terrys of the world, it's one specific John Terry, not feckin all the John Terrys of the world !!

Footballers who start answering a question with "Yeh, no..."
Which is it dumbass ? Yes or No, it can't be both.

I turn off the option that marks an email as read when it's been displayed for 5 seconds, choose view only unread messages, and mark them as read as I've dealt with them.

That way I still have the old ones to search if I need to, but I normally only see the ones that need dealing with.

I get very irritated when I see the use of letters the wrong way round or numbers instead of letters.

You know - 5ive or Se7en or the new prog on 4 The Event (with the second E back to front)(and what the hell's that all about?????)

Why?
What's wrong with the proper letter?

Im not really too bothered about peoples speech or language for that matter.I was brought up never to judge a book by its cover and to this day i stand firm on that.Im not putting where i was brought up, down so to speak but i come from a working class background and being honest there are far more important things to be worried about than the use of words out of context or the way someone use's Me instead of I in a coversation....Im not directing those particular 2 words at anyone in general...Just an E.g.

And to be fair if someone has a problem with the way i talk or phrase certain sentences or words then tough ****...
