Looks performance and recommended by my pro.
I loved the looks of them, got them from my pro and believe my ball striking has improved with a straighter flight.
Posing value? not really this years hotstuff is next years nevada bobs cheapos.
I'll agree with Brendy on this. A club's got to look good to you otherwise it won't feel right. performance is paramount and who knows best - the Pro. I also read all the reviews, although you can't really tell what a club's like until you've tried it.
Using a club just because your favourite player does is daft - when their equipment contract is up for renewal they'll probably change anyway.
I love the look of my irons both sat behind the ball and also in the hand. Pricewise, I picked up a bargain last year when I bought them.
I achieve a much higher ball flight as was stated by friends and several reviews I have read.
Plenty good enough for me and my standard, can't see me changing them for some time.......you never know though!!!
I'll agree with you on that one, but some folks buy Nike, Addidas, etc, because their favourite footballer wears their kit, even if it is only because the sportsperson is sponsored by them.
But it's a valid option, particularly to our younger members. Would Nike golf kit be as widely bought / taken seriously if it wasn't for Tiger?
Went for looks as a club has to suit my eye behind the ball, performance, although that should be pretty much a given. No point me having a sexy set of blades because my spaghettis swing won't do them justice. I also went for brand loyalty as I've used Callaway in the past (X14 and X 20 steels) so know what I'm getting. I also got my TM's (were R7's but in the process of acquiring TM Tour Burners) as I like the TM gear and trust what I get from the clubs.
Bought a couple of Titleist clubs, and when it came time to change others, Titleist was my first port of call. I trust them as a brand, partly for the image, partly because I like their tour presence, and partly because they bring out new clubs about every two years, not every two weeks, so I like to think some thought has gone into it, and I won't see my sticks vastly reduced two weeks after I have bought them.
My current irons are Titleist which I chose after trying a few. My driver subsequently became titleist and I have a 585h. I then bought a titleist bag and titleist brolley.
Next up is going to be titleist fairway woods and wedges.
Why?
Having tried titleist I firmly believe that they make the best equipment available at present.
I love the look of titleist gear and cant wait to get some custom ZM/ZB irons next year.
Some years ago I had been using "Tandric" woods which were looky likeys of the more expensive Callaways.
I had an unexpected tax rebate which allowed me to go and buy a Callaway Steelhead plus driver and 3 wood.
Hadn't even swung them before but sittiing them down in the pro shop convinced me that I was going to clatter them a decent way. I wasn't wrong, and love them to bits.
For me its feel and whats best suited for my game, I fon't have massive top notch gear but what I have I am 100% confident in them, now, well for the time being.
When I decided to replace my 12 year old clubs last year,I had a brand in mind, read loads of reviews, didn't change mind, went to try them out at a custom fitting and was very surprised when another brand that I hadn't really considered, gave a much better showing. Bought the surprise brand and been very happy with them thus far. Having just joined a club, will try and get my handicap down for next year, and then may take another chance at the brand I originally wanted
need_my_wedge, I just bought the FP's, they feel so light and I was very impressed. I tried the new Wilson DI9's, Ping G5's, Mizuno MX-200's but the FP's won hands down on feel and proformance, I just need two tapes on the grips and they get picked up on Friday.
Trial and error too, settled on Titleists as I know if things aren't going well I cannot blame the clubs, I know it's me. That's what having good kit does - you can't blame poor results on the gear, that in itself gives confidence.
I bought the clubs that I'm currently using because I:
a) liked what I was looking at & trying
b) Didn't want anything that dramatically hid any faults I may have in my swing.
c) Happened to get what I was after at a deal I could hardly refuse.
d) Pure vanity. (see a))
