I have just got a set of Ping S58 Irons and because I'm so tall I needed them 2 degrees upright.

I have had this done before and had the same problem, but whenever I get standard lie I seem to be OK.

My biggest problem is I am too impatient and usually give up after a few months.

How were you fitted and who by? If the adjustments being made are causing a hook then the simple solution is that your swing warrants a standard club.

Stiffer flex shaft and midsize grips would help neutralise a hook move.

Could be any number of things as to why you hook the ball.

If you were fitted then it seems strange that just because your tall they automatically gave you 2deg upright, proper fitting looks at your existing swing as well as physical attributes to get the right set up for you.

Other things apart from the actual swing itself; grip? stance? shoulder / hip allignment? could all be contributing. Clubs might be perfect!

Would be best to see a Pro if your that concerned about it.

Could just be a swing flaw, have you tried having a lesson from a pro? Would be difficult to say with out actually looking at you hit a ball. Get a video up if ya can dude, there is enough advice on here to write a book on! Lets the lads disect your swing for you!

I was fitted at the Ping Fitting Centre at St.Andrews.

I was given stiff shafts.

To be honest I think it may be my stance which is causing the hook as people say my left toes are nearer to the ball than my right.

I will try to correct this.I am also going to try standing slightly further away from the ball.

If things don't improve, how easy is it to get the lie angle changed and where is the best place to get it done?

When people say the ball is closer to one foot than the other, this is not exactly relevant because each club determines where the ball should be.

Granted if you were playing a 9 iron from the front of your stance they would be right but this is more likely to make you thin it rather than hook it.

You could just be releasing the hands too early so the club is slightly closed on impact. or your hands and arms arriving at the ball way before your shoulders are squared.

Go over the basics mate.

Check out www.videojug.com and search perfect golf swing, this is a great video and might help you to spot what your doing wrong

I had this problem and had to get a lesson to fix it. I found I was cupping my left wrist at the top of the backswing more than usual. Try keeping it your left wrist flat, hit the ball out to 1 o'clock from the inside and finish high.

Coming over the top with a closed face is my guess, combined with poor alignment. Need to see a video really. Bet it isn't the clubs.
