Following on from a previous thread about what would make you leave your club i recieved a letter yesterday from the club.

The letter was regarding a non apperance in a club stableford last Sunday morning,i'd forgot to phone and cancel as im hacked of with it just now.

The letter read because you failed to appear for the comp, the match committee require your written justification for this situation by 5pm today. The council take failure to cancel or appear very seriously and failure to provide a response or reason deemed acceptable by the match committee by the stipulated time will result in your exclusion from the next stokeplay comp.

Now this is the first time in 10 years i've done this, surely a wee email asking for a reason would have been surfice not a letter making me out to be a bloody criminal, talk about being up there own arse at that club its mad.

Heard today that they've sprayed a green colouring on the greens ,i think thats to make them stand out a bit more when hitting it out knee jungle a foot of the fairway.

Things are getting a bit mental at Scotscraig by the sound of things mate! Get yourself some time aff, then off to Monifieth or Alyth I say!

Drunk with their own perceived power. If you were a regular repeat offender fair enough but that is ridiculous for a one off. Even funnier that they set a formal deadline for response. To amuse yourself you could send a request for an extension of time to respond as you are taking advice as to what is an 'acceptable' reason.

I couldn't be doing with that nonsense. Tell them, where they can stick it. Was it seaweed they were spraying the greens with. They do it at my place, or was i green paint. You have loads of quality courses to choose from in your area. Best of luck dude.

Thats a good one mate i never thought of that ,the said person has delusions of grandeur and a reply like that would be a good bit of banter,i'll email him later.

just reply to them with some speil about being up sick all night & you then slept through the alarm & you were so unwell you completely forgot about the golf.. then go on to mention your record of attendance ..

Deke its mad mate, i going up to Alyth next week with some mates they joining next year to see what like.

I wouldnt give any cock and bull just to keep them sweet. I would just state what the reason was, in a timescale convenient to yourself not them. Jeez its a golf club not the bloody gestapo :)

Steve, sounds like the committee at Scotscraig have completely lost the plot. If I were you I'd write a long rambling letter back to them and finish it off with, 'Please treat this letter as notice of my wish to resign my membership of the club with immediate effect.'

Bill to be honest mate both ,but the condition and attitude at the course doesn't help i've a couple of away games this weekend a Texas Scramble at Kirriemuir a nice wee course and a game with GCD at St Andrews then see how it goes from there.

Surely you can leave whenever you want, assuming you're not paying your fees monthly?????

Thanks for the offer mate but we're playing with a one of my mates who is a member.

No worries, let me know how you get on! I am playing there for the first time in ages on Sunday to hand in the first of my handicap cards, can't wait,I have missed the place!

Not at a good place so , if its any help i was struggling big time a couple of months ago mate , golf was no real fun & i felt the game was beating me up every time i played.. it has turned around tho so keep pluging away mate ,you have the game , itl come back to you ..
just write down a list of positives & negatives , itl seem clearer in print .. are any clubs realy any different behind the scenes , every club goes through their phase of the power happy having their day .. you can still enjoy your golf around these people , they will burn their bridges & scuttle away in time

To me it sounds like a typical 'rules is rules' and in some ways the Club have to be even-handed whether you have been there ten days or ten years. Not saying its right btw, just that if this is a known rule that written explanation is required for missing a comp, they have to follow through, no matter how heavy handed it seems.

Is your general feeling toward the Club given the course condition adding to how you responded to this letter - would your reaction be the same 12 months ago?
