TV Series - What Are You Watching?

In other news, Dr Who poor (again) and Wallace and Grommet excellent. 👍
Agree with the above. Dr Who writers need to look back at some old episodes. Alien world, alien baddies, Dr saves the day. Far too much nothingness, emotional stories (attempts) that fall flat, bigging up the assistants (nope, still don't care about them). I like the new guy but he can only work with the stories he is given.

W & G was as wonderful as ever. A show you can watch again and pick out even more clever bits

Whilst others joined the G & S train, I watched a really lovely documentary on Roger Moore. Well worth picking up on iPlayer.

I found Dr who was fantastic when eccelson brought him back. Tennant did a brilliant job but then I found Russel t Davies became all "look at me" with his writing and made it just over the top.

If I could pin point when it went down hill? When Billie Piper left ...

I agree with most of the above except the last bit. Her role, not her personally, was part of the problem. Assistants are temporary, the Dr should care, a bit, but not too much. Her time brought about the Dr with feelings, the assistant loving the Dr etc. I really don't like the sycophancy between Dr and assistant.

I probably have to accept that the modern Dr Who is just not for me. I should stick with iplayer repeats of past series, revisit my first Dr, Tom Baker, and go from there.

I loved every second of Gavin & Stacey and more than once wiped a tear away. It's just a lovely vibe of friendship and the writing, acting and characters are more than tidy for me.

Too sad it's the last one though.

It’s brilliant - have loved every episode , it has everything from heartwarming to hilarious

100%. I'm really invested in the characters too.

I'll give it a while and then start from the beginning again! Look forward to seeing Doris :)
Gavin is boring, the way him and Smithy talk to each other is cringeworthy, and their mates are dull as dishwater.

Other than that, I don’t mind it, the best characters are the older ones.

Have binged series 1 and 2 last 2 days and in amongst all the coughing have been tears of laughter.
Can see so many people we know in the characters, perhaps it helps living near Wales for 15 years with wife no 1 working in a Monmouth bank and yearly day trips to Barry

We finished Black Doves last night, having spent much of the six episodes pretty baffled at every turn. Yes I know that maybe that’s intended…but the problem is we keep thinking we’ve missed something we have been told and should remember. Makes for somewhat frustrating viewing. That said…it was rather funny in places and absurdly bonkers, but fine I suppose.

Back to The Day of the Jackal when we get home - we are at ep.5 and it is excellent.

After the disappointment of the Christmas Dr Who I put on a Tom Baker set, Revenge of the Cybermen. Proper, old school Dr Who 😍. Rubbery suits, dodge sets but stories that are soooooo much better.

All on iPlayer if anyone is tempted to relive their younger days.
