TV Series - What Are You Watching?

Hhhhmmm.
Seems there's a lot of judging the person going on rather than the cake.
Whatever happened in previous rounds does not affect the judging of the final cake - or at least it should not.
The final cake was quite definitely the winner. It met the brief of "highly decorated" "summer cake". It was bigger and better in all respects.

Well done Georgie. You had lots of difficulties on the way, but really and truly rose to the task at the end.
Da iawn.

we are allowed to judge the first two bakes. Either those rounds count or they are just for show and everything is on the final bake. If it's all on the final bake then Georgie wins. If it is over the 3 bakes then Christian wins, imo. I think they make such a big thing about the final showstopper that they back themselves into a corner with judging.

Luckily I only managed to get caught in the living room during one episode of Bake Off 🤣
It was last weeks semi final and I did think it was a proper scam how the worst baker got through. 2 major disasters then one great round 🤔

Are you sure you are not just judging it through Welsh eyes? ;) # Biaaaased 🐑

I do think that the earlier rounds are there as a sort of tie break. Basically it always seems to be the showstopper that far outweighs everything else.

I do get that it has greater weight but it should not over rule everything.

Incidentally, should anyone want to chat more about this, then by tomorrow there is no need to use the spoiler to cover anything. If you haven't watched it by then..........tough. It's all over the media already.

100%. Part of why I love Bake off and similar is how I engage with the contestants. I'll usually have a favourite which is based on their personality - or at least how it's portrayed by the programme producers. I don't always have a final where I'd be gutted if one contestant won but did so last night based almost entirely on behaviour rather than cake :-)

Having watched a lot of shows over the years, I would say that the weighting they seem to give the rounds is 1st 10%, 2nd 20% and 3rd 70%.
Or something like that.
The final went the same way as a few other finals (last year for example) where the one who had shown to be the best over the final weeks did not win. And the best cake did win.

Yep, I'm sure I am not biased. My eyes are Scottish. Same colour as all my dad's relatives.
The cake was the winner - and that was very English, I believe.
I was born in England and I have lived in England. I consider myself to be English with equal parts Scottish/Welsh ancestry.
My mother was Welsh born, but lived in England from age 18 to 93.
I had Christiaan as the favourite going into the final - even more so after the first two rounds. But his final cake was simply nowhere near as good as Georgie's.

I just can't watch it, far too exciting for me pmsl.

Brawn F1 documentary on Disney/BBC iPlayer. Brilliant documentary and Keanu Reeves narrating is an interesting twist. Every clip with Christian Horner complaining about Brawn's double diffuser is just priceless. If Red Bull had designed it, he would have had no complaints. Two-faced nob. Jensen Button just comes across as such a decent person throughout and the mixture of clips/interviews is excellent. Bernie Ecclestone now looks like one of the Morlocks from the orginal Time Machine film though.
