trouble at t' mill!

see, I am not a confrontational person so for me its a case of well maybe he didnt put it in and maybe I should be off 21 (I know thats not true but have played to it albeit rarely and more by luck than ability)

I have a sneaky feeling my 2 playing partners wont go either and I enjoy my rounds with them immensely and wouldnt want to give that up...

jeez, theres more to consider in this than I 1st thought lol

This sounds like a nightmare that ive had about golf. Leading on the last day and somehow got totally screwed out of it :o

This absolutley stinks and i hope your mate gets this sorted. Sadly it looks like he is going to be robbed of a chance to have a glory day in a big comp which he will never get back. I hope the correct autorities bear that in mind and act accordingly.

at 1st we were a bit shocked then thought ok, maybe he did balls up but we then realised and put 2 & 2 together and it just reeks of stitch up. same with my cut, same with my mates almost forced supplementary after shooting a nett course record... they dont like it up em Mr Mannering :D

G1BBO u gotta get outa there, sounds like a nightmare place, its their ball, and they dont wanta play

your 5.4 general play cut is ridiculous in itself without this

Sounds like they DONT LIKE New Guys..........!!!

munro, am starting to get that way myself. we are going to ask our friend to caddy for one of us, my mate Kris off 9 is 2 off the lead and on his day can shoot level par so if he caddied for him and they won would be a right kick inb the teeth. At the same time I am thinking of turning up, having my clubs ready then saying 'nah, not playing' but then that just lets some one else in with a chance of the net.

its crap but a catch 22 (as always)

Go for it - big time.
You're responsible for returning a signed card to the Committee.
Returning a card includes putting it in a specified box. If there are witnesses and there is no doubt that the card was returned then the Committee have lost it and it's their problem.
The scores are available on another card, they should be transferred to a new card and both marker and Player invited to sign them and re-submit them.

Get the County involved asap.

And get outta there!

question, is this a storm in a teacup got out of hand or do you really think something untowards is going on?

the guy in question btw is in the forces and moving on end of next month, relevant? maybe?

I don't think it matters either way - it's wrong. Best case the Committee have made a balls up and have lost his card - not good but it happens occasionally. Do the right thing, Man up and get on with it.

Worst case they don't want him around and are willing to break rules and trust to get their way.......

If it happened to me and I had the option of moving on, I, for one, could do with the exercise.......

yeah thats easily said when in reality you dont have to. I personally could happily join another club tomorrow but my playing partners are quite settled and wont. Golf wouldnt be the same without them.

I thought that but was getting frustrated by my old club (though nothing in the same league as what is going on here) and decided to make the move. Met people that I enjoy playing with just as much and still go back to my old club every now and again for a round with the old gang and they come over to mine, best of both worlds.

it makes no odds wether the guy is moving on next month or not, the real issue is trust if the card was put in the box and witnesses confirm this then the commitee should take the word of the 2 members and deal with the situation fairly accepting liability, if not your trust in the committee has gone added together the extraordinary cut they gave you and almost compulsory supplementary for your mate, it all adds up to one unhealthy atmosphere.

With regard to playing partners you will soon find new ones if you move on but at the end of the day its your decision and you have to be happy either staying put abd accepting the strange going on, or moving on and maybe having to find new golfing pals.
An unfortunate situation and hopefully it gets resolved amicably

G1bbo,

I think it stinks, mate. Your general cut was ridiculously large. Okay, it may look good on the sig, but can you score/win off it? The most I ever got cut was 1.8, and that was shooting 38 points off a 3/4 handicap of 15. 5.4 is massive for general play!

I agree entirely with writing to the local golfing union, but make sure you also send a copy to the club, clearly stating your reasons for sending it.

Just wondering, what have you guys said to/asked the club about this? Have they given you any reasons for those decisions? If yes, then include those in the letter to the union.

Good luck!

GIBBO, this whole situation stinks.

Is it the same guys who does comps and handicaps ? Might not be a whole commitee thing, might be just 'one bad apple'.

Definitely lodge a formal complaint with the club and the union. Doesn't have to be nasty. Just state the facts as you see them and try to keep any personal feelings out of it. As much it that might be hard.

Maybe let the dust settle a little before making a snap decision about moving on. As I say might just be one bad apple spoiling things, and if that gets resolved then things might be rosey in the garden again.

Although I'd be so paranoid now if I was putting in a potentially winning card. I think I'd get someone to video it as evidence :)

This is the comment that bothers me Gibbo.
Your mate Kris on his day can shoot level par,and he plays off 9.
Does this mean you think his handicap is not right.
Is this in competition play,or bounce games.
In our group we have 3 8 handicappers and a 9 handicapper.
None of us have shot level par in fact the best is 72 on a par 69 and that is once in a blue moon.
Every week we enter the comps and our handicaps could not be truer than they are.
If i had a mate who as you put it "on his day" can shoot level par,
i would say his handicap is not a true handicap.
9 under handicap?

Forgive me if you mean level par minus his handicap

Wow, I knew you had a story to tell but that is shocking, how could you live with yourself taking someone else's card?! Nasty, very nasty, play the comp then run a mile.
