Hi all,

I was just wondering what you guys think the top kit of 2011 is so far. I dont mean that you own, I more mean that we have talked about on the forum or you have read reviews about.

The post is born from talking on the course today with the guys, one forum member and one not. We were saying to the non forum member how the 910D has rocked the forum and how many posts there have been about it.

For me the number one and two are pretty clear but I am not even sure what I am going to put as number three yet.

1/ Titleist 910D
2/ Mizuno JPX 800/pro
3/ (it would be too easy to put 910F or H. TM R11 has been too Marmite in the reviews)Srixon Z-Star

What do you guys think?

If I was in the market for a new driver, I would have to have a go with the 910, just because of the word on here.

Irons would have been the i15's and the reviews they got on here, but I didn't get on with them and ended up with the MX300's instead. Which must be one of Mizunos most under-rated clubs ever.

Footjoy Contours. A few good words on here, I tried a pair and bought them instantly.

Luckily I don't change my kit that often, so I'm not as up-to-date as some.

But I think the profusion of good (and some free) golf GPS apps for the iPhone takes it overall for me. Namely, Freecaddie and mycaddiepro.

Driver has to be the 910
Irons would probably be Mizzy MP53. Not seen as much forum traffic for the JPX 800 pro although I love them as a club. After that definitely the I15
Putters - quite a personal choice and so a wide range discussed and probably too open to call
Wedges - probably the Vokey gets the thumbs up

Balls - DX2 and 3 seem popular as do the Z star. Not seen too much on the new Pro V.

From a personal view:

1) Casio slow mo camera (FH100 i think) - added more to my game than any stick could by enabling far more effective practise sessions

2) Titleist 910 D3 - yep Im part of the gang and whilst I use it no more than 3 or 4 times a round I love it

3) My scotty, not a new toy but still the one I rely on more than any other

1 .. D2 910 1st Titleist driver I could ever hit and WOW

2 .. Titleist AP2 irons .. 1st Titleist irons I could ever hit and WOW

3 .. Not kit but 2 lessons and a new slow rhythmic swing

Yeah the whole 910 series seems to be faultless. I've not really heard many people not liking them.
The R11 is pushing for a podium finish. The 3 wood for me is just a great club and definately a 'go to' club off the tee.

A lot of positives for Mizzy irons too.

The gamin wristwatch thing looks fantastic, I couldnt get one as I have an aversion to wearing watches etc but anyone who is used to it would really benefit!

I was speaking to my pro this week about the Titleist 910 drivers, and mentioned this forum and the rave reviews the club was getting. I was concerned that I may be missing out on extra distance with my Ping G15.

He works in a fitting centre and has access to all clubs and shafts and says he regularly tries them all - and could have anything he wanted. He said that after trialling the 910 extensively he is more than happy to stay with his older Titleist driver (forget which model).

This is only 2nd hand information so make of it what you will, but by his account there is very little difference between the top end drivers, and it comes down to personal preference (and possibly spin characteristics).

Having said that, I may be seeing him for a proper fitting to get those extra few yards in time for H4H ;)

Interesting view, a lot of Titleist fans (myself included) not actually been big fans of the last couple of drivers (the 909 and 907 versions) , the 910 however is a thing of beauty. that said i do tend to agree that there is actually not that much between the top end clubs, except for a fair amount of hype :)

I think maybe the biggest difference between the 910 and previous Titleist drivers is forgiveness, so to a pro who strikes the ball very well most of the time there might not be enough to make him change.

Certainly the 910 appears to have been a forum phenomenon, rarely do so many people agree on the merits of a piece of kit. Certainly as far as drivers are concerned it has all been about the 910 and the R11.

I have not really noticed and real forum preference as to irons and putters, many mentioned with various pros and cons but nothing receiving unanimous praise or disdain.

Balls wise, the usual suspects have come up this year. What I have noticed is a slightly less vocal support for the ProV and greater supporter for the lesser known premium balls. Is that due to a dip in quality or is £40 a dozen a bit much in current economic climes.

As for innovations, the garmin approach watch has gone down well and seems like a really good, simple idea. The only down side is fo people like me who do not like to golf in a watch.

Of the big names, the one thing that I have noticed is almost no mention of Callaway. Now I really like their woods and would change to X Series irons if I had the cash but their latest ranges just do not seem to have struck a cord on the Forum. The Octane Black to me is the best looking new driver and the Razr Hawk is meant to produce better results than the R11 but nobody is talking about them. Same with Nike, a quiet year on the Forum for them as well.

Yep no hype about Callaway this year, I wanted to love the Cally drivers but I just did not, they seemed lifeless to me with the stock shafts, that RIP shaft they are using was rank for me, high flight, loads of spin and dead as a dodo. They came alive a bit with a very expensive shaft upgrade but I think you could say that for a Dunlop.
