With Woodhall Spa having 170 odd bunkers it is a nightmare to keep them all impeccable. The substrate is sand with a lot of stones. So the course drains well but the stones always find their way to the bunkers.

Number of visitors is next for me. Too many of them!

Not forgetting some dodgy members 🤔
Yeah could have been Option 11 :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

NO its not... unlimited votes.... I made 6 & You should be able to add more
We win only on 'Practice facilities'..... they're the best in the region!
And if you weren't on the wrong side of Harrogate for me....I'd consider heading your way. Still rethinking Knaresborough just because they have a nice field to practice on.

The fact that the course is not immune to biblical rain and as a consequence closure is probably the biggest issue, however, other than picking the whole thing up and transporting it to somewhere linksy (or sunnier) there is nothing to be done.

Other than the issue above the club ticks all of your boxes in a positive sense, bar one, the bunkers, they are pants.

Bunkers by a county mile. We have just 28 bunkers on our course. The course was designed by an american who had large bunkers put on the course. Apparently it was an American thing. The drainage is shocking. The sand is even worse. We had a company in to renovate a couple. I think the idea was to let them do two or three and out greenkeeping staff so the rest. It never materialised. They are shocking.
The drive to the course is quite frankly poor.loads of potholes filled with water. They will do them next week like they always do in the winter. A bag of cold tarmac and try to smash it down. Same as the last few years.

The bunkers at LB are awful. Completely inconsistent and most of them are just filled with stones, I've ruined two new wedges over the last few years in them, one was the first time I'd ever used it.

Ask me this question a year ago and I would have voted for the majority of things on the list.

But we have new owners who are moving things in the right direction. They can't wave a magic wand but things look very promising for both the short and medium term.

Our locker room is dreadful but I'd rather investment be directed at the course.

One thing that I think is a glaring omission from the list is drainage. We are built on clay so it's a mammoth task - but definitely the worst aspect of the club at the moment.

The fixation on having bunkers...even when they are terrible just makes....no....sense. Fill them in....make a big mound as a hazard, all you have to do is just mow them.
We have quite a few that just add a visual extra to the course so amazing how they generate such toxicity. With those that are greenside, my expectations are simply, get out & on the green.... not "Oh I can't control the ball because of their inconsistent condition".

We had this problem with stones in bunkers.
So we put linings in them all at great cost.
They are a disaster as the sand is never deep enough to prevent you hitting the lining with the bounce of the club.

The rest is excellent but the bit they spent a lot of money on is awful.😞

Clubhouse for us

It's rubbish, all new and fancy. However they don't care about golfers. Only the weddings / corporate stuff where they get in decent catering and they use the big rooms which overlook the course

We get a limited menu (no ham egg and chips) and a view over the car park

The food is bang average, breakfast is the best thing on the menu

Not the best place but rest of course is outstanding and I don't visit the clubhouse everytime

The lack of a booking system, they want to attract new members, who are probably time poor, they need to juggle other things around their golf.

The prospect of turning up on spec to find a queue is very off putting

I could never join a course like this, I'm pretty specific with my times as normally need to be back for the school pick up 😂

Is there no booking system because the stuffy old guard won’t accept change?

As a boy we turned up to play Deaconsbank, an awful public course, near Glasgow. We had to wait about 4 hours to get on one Sunday. 😬

If the biggest fault you can find with your club is no ham, egg and chips, then I think they’re doing very well. Sounds like you’re on to a winner 👍

I voted bunkers, but by this time next year they will all have been replaced, so it’s a well known issue.

Drainage is the other issue. We’ve been dumping a lot more sand on the greens for the last couple of years and it’s definitely improving year round playability. Ideally we would be able to transport a plot of Surrey sand belt to Hertfordshire, but instead we have started to put sand on the fairways. Turning the course into a beach every August will hopefully make an impact over time.

As you can vote on more than one issue it is difficult to tell exactly how many people have voted from the numbers above but there have been replies so far from less than 30 people and there have been 25 votes for bunkers. I wonder whether this is a ‘serious’ problem that is fairly universal. This is a high proportion of clubs on a key feature which costs a lot of money who seemingly don’t get it right. Might be something for someone like BIGGA to really sort out.

Joined my club in April, mainly for its year round playability.

The only thing I don’t like, and this feels like a bit of a first world problem, is the tee booking and how busy it is. Tee times are booked online and open at 7am a week before, and because the course is so busy you have to be online by 7am to stand a chance. Even then the chances of getting the time you want are slim (I’ve only managed it once on a weekend). Not so bad if I’m playing that day as I’m up anyway, but if I want to play a different day each week it means no lie ins! Luckily there’s a group of us and generally one of us will get a time that suits and book the rest in. Like I say, bit of a first world problem.

The only other thing is how busy it is. At my last course I could pretty much rock up at any time and get on, jump a few holes if I was playing after work. Where I am now is pretty much solid dusk till dawn and has meant sometimes I haven’t bothered playing after work.

I don't have any major complaints.
Other than being a Braid course and an obscure course in France we don't have any reciprocals which would be good.

I also voted for the locker room which is a bit basic but I live very close and never used it.

Right now our greens aren't great because of Fusarium but they have been excellent all year.

Practice facilities are pretty good for a small members course with a 2 bay studio with Trackman . Outdoor range practice bunker and green.
