Clubhouse for us

It's rubbish, all new and fancy. However they don't care about golfers. Only the weddings / corporate stuff where they get in decent catering and they use the big rooms which overlook the course

We get a limited menu (no ham egg and chips) and a view over the car park

The food is bang average, breakfast is the best thing on the menu

Not the best place but rest of course is outstanding and I don't visit the clubhouse everytime

I've seen you mention ham egg and chips before, you must love it 🤣

I have voted for all but 2 of the options here... Can anyone beat that :ROFLMAO:

My current course is cheap and cheerful, but after years of playing there I think me and my friends are just about done with it now.

Strongly considering a move next year, my old man is going so it seems like the right time to jump ship and move with him. 👀

Went and played the possible new club yesterday, world of difference!

Spike bar
Members Bar
Locker room - with showers!
Actual practice facilities
Superb course with some great unique holes
A course I would not be embarrassed to host anyone from the forum at!

I'm off :ROFLMAO:

I would give a reply but it might get be up in front of the Captain's committee.

Where I play we have strict rules about what can be said on a social media or otherwise platform as it can affect the club's income.

Joined my club in April, mainly for its year round playability.

The only thing I don’t like, and this feels like a bit of a first world problem, is the tee booking and how busy it is. Tee times are booked online and open at 7am a week before, and because the course is so busy you have to be online by 7am to stand a chance. Even then the chances of getting the time you want are slim (I’ve only managed it once on a weekend). Not so bad if I’m playing that day as I’m up anyway, but if I want to play a different day each week it means no lie ins! Luckily there’s a group of us and generally one of us will get a time that suits and book the rest in. Like I say, bit of a first world problem.

The only other thing is how busy it is. At my last course I could pretty much rock up at any time and get on, jump a few holes if I was playing after work. Where I am now is pretty much solid dusk till dawn and has meant sometimes I haven’t bothered playing after work.

I was on the committee when we went to all booked tee times after a log discussion we went for 8 pm in the evening 8 days in advance
Reasonings -
8 days in advance meant it was not on the same weekday as the one you are trying to book
It was a time that would suit the majority
It was a time when the office was closed so they would not become inundated with phone calls if it was not working.

Works well but it does not stop the fastest fingers first, I reckon no time would stop that.

Have you considered approaching the club for a review?

I could never join a course like this, I'm pretty specific with my times as normally need to be back for the school pick up 😂
Goes both ways.
We had a booking system after Covid but people were booking and just not turning up.
Many a time I just went up on spec and there was nobody there.

I think a hybrid system could work ,but the members were given a vote and voted to get rid of the booking system for good.

I can see merits in both but golfers abuse any system put in place unfortunately 😳

The general condition of the course is very poor, weeds all over paths, paths needing repairs.
The greens are poor, the consistency between green to green is poor. Also they look like they have an underlying issue and never to far away from being riddled with disease.
Bunkers are poor, poor sand and full of stones.
Yellow tee box’s are uneven.
Its a heathland course but its cut like a poor parklands course.
It has great potential but poor leadership from the committee, and average green staff at best are hampering the place.

It sounds like my place, there’s issues but the committee either think all is rosey or bury their heads.

It's pretty simple at our place..if you want to turn up just look at the booking system..if there space just book yourself in the car park and play

No need for hybrid, just check the system

100%, everyone has their own criteria / agenda when they join a club.
For me, I need the booking system so know exactly when I'm going to be going out and roughly finishing.

I think he was saying that the system was telling him that the course was booked but players were booking and not turning up, so the tee was empty but no space to book.

Yes I see that but it does mean if those times are booked up you don’t get a game.

At least with no system you Que and might get 9/12/18 holes.
That’s better than none.

It’s a bit of a minefield.
It was the pensioners booking the 9.30 ish times as they are doing the school run as parents were working.😳😳

During Covid, when all times were booked, the club found that 8pm was a very busy time nationally as most clubs seemed to open their bookings at that time.
This caused lag in the system so people who were trying to book got frozen out.
So we switched time...opened the booking at 8.06pm and voilà....no lag.

That’s what it was at my last club, albeit 7pm 8 days before. Like you say, still fastest finger first but it felt a lot less stressful sat on the sofa at a reasonable time, than squinting at my phone in bed at 6.59am!

I’ll try and bring it up at the next meeting 👍

When we had an office over your way I used to use the range there, the state of some of them as they came off I'm guessing it can be a mud bath.
