Canada experimenting with "needs to be daylight between players" offside rule. Do we want to see goals like this given...

🍿🍿🍿
That’s worse than we have now.
The angle is very poor to see any daylight.

Just use a consistent point of reference a head or foot of both players.

Are we to take it that Utd fans now accept that Amorim shouldn't have been given extra time as per Fergie in order to turn it around? Can we add him to the list of Moyes, Mourinho, Van Gaal, Solskjaer, Ten Haag, who all lasted too long? Can the saying about Ferguson being given extra time so ........... should finally be put to bed? I mean, we've all loved the additional pain you've been through but..........😂

To be fair they did get rid of Moyes within 7/8 months!

Stuff like giving managers time is a myth. Especially these days and for elite clubs, which Utd are one of a handful in the world. Bayern, Real, Barca and PSG don't give managers time; you either deliver right away or you're gone. Same for players. It's the culture of winning that drives those clubs on. One of Utd's main issues since Ferguson left is they've acted like a small club and made excuses for players and managers that weren't upto it. Too much time, too accepting of second rate results. The fans should demand more.

Amorim should've been moved on in the summer as he clearly wasn't upto it. As someone said, he did a few good things by getting rid of toxic players but on the flip side, he was ready to bomb out Mainoo - a classy homegrown player. Carrick has done very well because he's just applied common sense and picked the formation that suits his best players. You could argue performances haven't been brilliant but to take them from bottom half to third in a few months is amazing 👏

Carrick will get the job in my opinion, I can’t see how he won’t get it to be honest.

I tend to agree. If Utd finish season on a relative high, it is almost risker bringing another manager in, even if they are very highly regarded

The big thing, whatever they do, is the club need to look to build a good squad of players. Cunha, Mbemo, Lammens and possibly Sesko were positive last summer. They need to do same in other positions, such as midfield, fullback and possibly striker positions. Give their manager more tools.

Utd's problem had often been at board level, yet the board often get to remain in their job. The managers often get an unfair amount of blame for the problems the board have caused or failed to fix.

If arsenal don’t get over the line (I think they will) but if they don’t, does Arteta stay. Has he gone as far as he can

If they fall short he has to go. It will be down to him because of his conservative approach, simple as that. For what it’s worth, I think they’ll just do it because they have a marginally better run in.

The problem for the Arsenal board will arise if they bottle the league and somehow win the Champions League. Then they’ve got a real conundrum.

I didn’t know until the weekend that he has only won the FA cup in his 6 years at Arsenal. Even Spurs have won a European trophy in that time 😳
Not exactly the best record for Mr Arteta. 🤔
Edit to say I still Have a feeling it is Arsenals to lose. They have a better run in and City’s last game is v Villa. 🫣 the three games before are all toughies as well.

To me it’s not just the run in. I feel in the last couple of years city always seem to be capable of a slip up. The longer a game goes when then haven’t scored, them seem to try too hard

I wouldn’t get rid of him, he’s got Arsenal back to being contenders and as discussed with other teams, who do you bring in?

I hope Arsenal win it for him, nothing against City but all these shouts about City buying Leagues and the 115 charges etc and all of a sudden the same people want City to win the PL just to laugh at Arsenal.😵‍💫

The table won’t lie, the best team will finish 1st, agree Arsenal are making it interesting, but how boring was last season when it was wrapped up with a few games to go.

Arsenal have spent a fortune over the last 5 years and only have a FA Cup to show for it which was ultimately won by the squad Arteta took over mid season

He has spent all those years getting prob the strongest squad in the league but still flogs a few playars until they break - Saka and Rice being the main two

Imo he displays an arrogance of someone who has dominated European football for years yet consistently falls short

If they don’t win anything again then there is a huge question mark with regards if they should sack him

I agree. We don't need daylight, it just moves the line. We will still have close calls, that doesn't change. I think people would be happier if it was a consistent part of the body. Make it the chest, your knee, hips, what ever. Keep a single part, chest for me, over the line or not. Simple rules are so much better than complicated ones, make this simple.

I agree. Currently it gets really dubious when they have to measure the line from the top of someone's arm, as that is the area of the body furtherst forward. I'm not even sure if they have accurately defined where the arm begins and the shoulder starts for handball, and that is a critical part of measuring offside. I've heard sleeve length discussed, but what if players are wearing particularly short sleeves and anothe player wearing long sleeves?

If they could just completely remove arms and shoulders out of the offside measurement, and say, just measure it on any part of the leg (including foot) or head (whichever is furthest forward) when drawing their lines, I don't think it would be simpler. Take away that subjective part of the argument.

And I've also always said that daylight will make zero difference, as you are still measuring two lines and which one is ahead of the other. Just because the reference point changes, it doesn't change the fact that players will still be marginally offside just as often, and arguments will still exist. Also, one thing no one mentions, I suspect it would be much harder for an onfield linesman to judge whether daylight exists. Probably much easier to simply judge whether one player is ahead of another. But to judge if any part of the attackers body is in line with the defender could be much harder. You could have situations where there clearly looks to be daylight, yet a foot stretched backwards actually is in line with the defender. I've no experience running the line, but it just feels like it would be tougher to judge the daylight scenario in the heat of the moment that simply seeing any part of the attacker in an offside position.
