I've no experience running the line, but it just feels like it would be tougher to judge the daylight scenario in the heat of the moment that simply seeing any part of the attacker in an offside position.

I've done it for kids football. Daylight sounds a nightmare to me. When I did it, I just looked for anything clearly ahead of where they should be. Nothing marginal, it had to be clear (it was kids football after all). Trying to see a different coloured kit plus daylight . I can't imagine the refs association would want it. Fine for those who can use VAR but for the lower leagues, not great.

Didn’t see the game last night between City and Arsenal. But surely this now has to serve as a msg to Arteta, take the shackles of and use the attacking talent you have to go out and win every game and score as many as you can, that’s the only way now I can see them winning the league.

It’s his negativity and setting up not to lose that harming his teams chances.

What about all of the levels without VAR? Will daylight only exist for the elite leagues? Football usually does rules for all levels, not top divisions / competitions only. Imagine the assistant at non league level trying to work out daylight decisions

Why not? We keep getting told Football at the lower levels is better.

That's a tricky one though. You want the people around you that you feel comfortable with, the people who brought you to your current position. Most managers now come as a package, leave as a package.

Yes, he could have smoothed the transition better. I suspect he had conflicting advice, some told him to clear the decks, others told him to hold onto the staff. No doubt he has been questioned over this since.

Went to watch Stags v Luton on Saturday. Got to say the football want brilliant. But Luton played well.
However I loved the overall experience. After the game we were watching the Luton players come out and a six year old kid had a selfie with nearly all The Luton players walking to the coach. It was brilliant to see.
Oh and I didn’t miss VAR.

He got rid of 3 and brought in 4, the 4th being Phil Neville.

One of the 3 he got rid of was Meulensteen, he later claimed he’d offered Meulensteen a job and thought he was going to take it, Meulensteen turned him down and if he’d of known he was going to turn him down he’d of asked Phelan to stay.

The 3 he replaced them with from Everton was his Staff he’d worked with for over 5 years.

I agree. We don't need daylight, it just moves the line. We will still have close calls, that doesn't change. I think people would be happier if it was a consistent part of the body. Make it the chest, your knee, hips, what ever. Keep a single part, chest for me, over the line or not. Simple rules are so much better than complicated ones, make this simple.

I would go with the head.
Many times players looking along the line using their eyes to gauge offside to be caught a toenail offside is crap.

Not bothered what they use as long as its consistent.
