And he chose to go. Him. He wasn't pushed out, he chose to go. I'm not sure many fans will be believing him.

He did chose to go and I’m not going to begrudge him the chance to play abroad for one of the biggest clubs in the world

The fans that saw the raw emotion today with his teammates and then his family will believe him - I don’t think he is that good an actor to fake that

Ps - think the pic on the front page needs an update 😁😉

Better actor than he is defender? 😉😂

Absolutely classic Forest…both Everton and United providing the favours we required (after weeks of having no favours from anyone when we could have used them), and we couldn’t muster at least a draw against a bang average Chelsea side that cost over a billion quid. 🙃🙃🙃

1 point from 12 for our last 4 home games isn’t good enough and needs to be looked at in the off season if we are to build on this season.

Look forward to some away days in the back arse of nowhere.

Good on Villa for raising a complaint for an absolutely ridiculous decision.

Having been high up in the North Stand I didn’t get a close look at the Villa goal which was chalked off. But it did look as though Bayindir had made an utter hash of it, and if you are all saying it was a refereeing howler I’m in no position to argue.

But to say it was that which cost Villa a place in the Champion’s League is, with respect, a cop out. What cost them was a baffling approach to a game they really needed to win, in which they showed virtually no attacking intent.

They were up against a United side who were there for the taking, after an appalling season typified by a shocking performance midweek. And yet the first time Bayindir touched the ball was to take a goal kick after fifteen minutes. He then had precious little to do until his blunder, and then once Villa had gone a goal down and realised they had to have a go.

The stats don’t lie. Villa had only 6 shots to United’s 25. 1 on target to United’s 10. And the small matter of Emi Martinez getting himself red carded leaving his side a player down for half the game. So, with respect, whilst the referee doubtless got a huge call very wrong, to single that one element out and say it has cost Villa a place in the CL is a bit convenient.

As for United, the best I have seen in some time. Bruno was everywhere - a total contrast to Wednesday when he was anonymous. And we created a host of chances, which we wasted. Story of the last eighteen months or more. And I will not lay all the blame for that on Hojlund, who I felt for again today. He took up some great positions but the end product from both flanks was woeful. Neither Dorgu nor Amad looked to get the ball into danger areas, instead constantly cutting back inside and looking for Fernandes on the edge of the area. That has to change if United are going to score the goals which will win games.

All in all a decent performance. Quite glad I went against my reluctance when I woke this morning to make the effort.

Not sold on Dorgu yet. Seems to lack a final killer pass or shot. Thoughts ?

Just seen MotD. No question that the Villa goal should have stood but the noise over that is hiding the fact that Martinez was an absolute plank and cost the team.
Martinez is the most overrated goalkeeper I think I’ve ever seen. Stealing a living off a World Cup win and a handful of showy saves and somehow creates this illusion that he’s world class when he’s anything but.

Re the goal that never was, it was as big a howler from the keeper as it was from Martinez getting sent off. I think the defenders reactions help to con the ref into blowing. There is an angle where both Maguire and Lindelof stop as it is 99.9% certain that the keeper has collected the ball. None of them make an effort to cover the line as it looks a simple pick up. The attacker has done an excellent job of making the keeper take his eye off the ball which contributed to his fumbling. As a player or attacker you risk the wrath of your manager not going for that. And that for me is where a referee should understand football and not just the
“ rules”.
The ref totally screwed up blowing that early when VAR checks every goal. His inexperience cost a legit goal.
Utds second keeper has dropped as big a clanger as Onana drops, is he the one to take over from Onana.

The odd thing is that should Utd have scored, it may well of given Villa the kick up the backside to raise there game.

I thought that the final day was a bit of an anti climax re the race for the champs league. But should we have been surprised. This season has been a season of upsets every week and both Utd and Everton upset top five teams yesterday.

Already bored waiting for the season to start. 😁

Agree 100%.

Luke Shaw, if he could stay fit, would be an infinitely better choice in that role. Dorgu has no end product. He put one or two decent balls in yesterday, but as a proportion of the number of opportunities he had to do that, it was very low. He’s a young player, one for the future I hope, but some way short of good enough at the moment.

Indeed classic Forest! Been watching them for long enough to know we never do things the easy way!

Way I see it, most teams go through patches of form, good and bad, in a season. Our big issue is that we had our bad form at exactly the wrong time.

You can blame injuries, lack of squad depth, running out of steam or whatever you like. But if we’d had this patch of bad form earlier in the season and fallen away, then picked up for the last few games and charged into 7th place, we’d be looking at things a lot differently.

We can be disappointed we didn’t get Europa or Champions League. Or, we can be pleased and proud we got Conference League. Or, we can subscribe to both those viewpoints - they aren’t mutually exclusive.

When the dust has settled, we should certainly be happy and feel we can build on it.

Aston Villa, on behalf of Nottingham Forest may I say…..

I think Forest can very rightly be extremely proud of their season. They have lasted the course much better than most thought they would.

Most Forest callers to 606 I heard last night said much the same - at the start of the season they’d have been happy with 15th place with a couple of games to go, so that there were no relegation nerves going into the last week of the season.

To have been in the CL mix right up until yesterday was a magnificent achievement, and gives all clubs of their stature massive encouragement that it can be done.

The Laws of Football state that a goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball when it is between his hands, they do not say that he has to be holding the ball.

When Rogers played the ball it certainly appeared to be between the keeper's hands and if so the goal was rightly disallowed

It’s all about perspective isn’t it?

We’re all disappointed with the way things panned out because we’d done so well early on to be up at the top of the table for so long.

But the truth of the matter is,our squad, on the whole, has just about the lowest value in the league and our wage bill is 16th highest in the league…and outside of our starting 11-13 players, our bench just doesn’t have the quality we need.

Had we been mid table and made a surge for the European places at the end of the season we’d all be bouncing.

It’s a positive that we’re disappointed as a club as it means not settling and that we have the ambition to become even better.

Summer is going to be massive. If we can bring in some quality players in 3-4 key positions, we’ll be setting ourselves up very well for next season.

Yesterday, from a Forest fan’s perspective, must have felt like the final day of the 2011/12 season for United fans, when City pipped us with the last kick of the season.

To have something snatched away from you at the final hurdle is a horrible feeling.

It would have felt less terrible if Villa AND Newcastle both hadn’t bottled it. As it feels like it was within touching distance and we couldn’t quite grasp it.

Why are Man Utd going on a 2 match tour to the far east (apart from for money)? Play 60 games and jet off immediately to play a couple of meaningless games? Madness
