The Cricket Thread

I love one day cricket, you can have strategy and bash it cricket.
However, this World Cup is a joke with the say/night format and the wildly differing conditions for each innings.
They might as well just decide the game on the toss of a coin.

We have been truly awful during this tournament. I’m not even all that confident this England team will beat the Netherlands. We’re that bad.

And when you’re down, you get decisions like that. I thought, with reviews relating to possibly grounded catches, the TV umpire had to be certain in order to overturn a not out on field decision? How on earth Woakes can be given out on the strength of those totally blurred pictures is an utter mystery.

This has been an abysmal showing in the WC and we're fully deserving of our early flight out of there. Anyone care to suggest a reason? I think we've looked massively undercooked going into this tournament with possibly a touch of complacency? Can't really put blame solely at the door of the batsmen or the bowlers as both have been equally horrific.

The lack of 50 over cricket has to be a major factor but, for me, the biggest issue has to be the age of the squad.

Every player in the side today is the wrong side of 30 and, whilst it’s very fair to say it’s entirely possible to play at the highest level into your 30’s nowadays, to expect so many to do it is a big ask.

What would worry me here is that we have already used a high proportion of our strike bowlers overs with more than half the innings remaining. At some point we might have a really painful reckoning on that front, because we are not going to fancy chasing 250 plus on this deck.

Define strike bowler in this setup? Today might just be Livingstone’s day… good first over from him… maybe Ali and Root too..
