The all things EV chat thread

Can anyone drive into your golf club and charge for free?

(Speed is 3kwh so not the fastest, about 5% an hour on mine)

With this adapter yes anyone who chooses can, however it's not on the website that we have EV chargers nor on zap map I believe so many wouldn't

Still talks of them going to fast chargers then putting them online for people to navigate to and use the clubhouse for a pitstop

Anyone who has an EV , the tax brackets change this month for them..if you go onto the DVLA tax website from today until end of march ..

Just enter your reg, your v5 number and click ok. Ignore where it says "warning this vehicle is already taxed you may be charged" as it's still £0 ATM you will then extend your tax free to renew march 2026 instead of whatever month it was before .. just kicks that can down the road slightly

I don’t even know if it applied to an electric motorcycle/scoter, but just did it just in case

Not sure myself. I just saw this on a FB group I'm in and did it. Both mine and the wife's car align their tax now. I got 2 extra months tax free she got 1 extra month.

Nothing in the scheme of things just thought I'd share for everyone to use.. does help slightly as I pay insurance in one go and that's due same time as the tax so just pushes them apart slightly

Some impressive numbers coming from BYD
All very impressive technically, but...
1. How many 1MW chargers are we likely to see appear in the UK?
2. Given that ultra rapid charging costs more per mile petrol, the potential charging speed is kind of irrelevant.

EVs have got way too high end and full of unnecessary tech. At least some low cost small ones are beginning to appear. Hopefully that is the start of a sensible rethink by the manufacturers.

Why? People like big cars. SUVs don’t sell as well as they do for no reason. Even “mid size” family cars are bigger than of old.

People also like tech. But as for in-necessary that complaint can be levelled at any car. The new iDrive9 is terrible and dangerous IMO as it’s all housed in onscreen menus. And it’s across the whole range regardless of power source.

But BYD also have the low-cost small segment in mind to with the Dolphin. But the Atto 3 (their answer to the Kia Niro or Hyundai Kona) outsells both the Dolphin and Seal models combined on figures I saw the other week.

Some people want small, simple, compact but I’d hazard they are in the minority these days.
