The all things EV chat thread

I'm still tempted to change to an EV but this is quite scary. Trying to figure out when is the sweetspot between price and remaining decent usable battery range plus residual value in the car to sell it on when it's about 8 or 9 years old

Batteries are lasting a long time.well past the useful life of the car. Plenty of electric taxis with 250k + on the clock and still going strong.

Saw an interesting one on YouTube about battery degradation.

It's a bit long, so to summarise:
Bottom line is the the majority of EVs still have about 90% battery capacity after 100,000 miles.
And most of the degradation happens early on, then tails off.
Interestingly the biggest losses were with Jaguar, followed by (drum roll please)... Tesla! (Yes, it surprised me too).

But Tesla has a new battery coming soon. Any day now. Elon said so just a few years ago …

No suprises, EVs are excellent even after 100,000 miles. You lose a bit of range but efficiency is the same.

I'm sure I read there is going to be a 55m investment in kerbside charging facilities announced. That should make EVs far more accessible for many.

This a good thing in another respect.

In Yeovil there is no real shortage of chargers available for the public to use but the trouble is a lot of them are located in car parks so as well as paying for charging you also have to pay for parking.

I was looking at electricity providers but could only find one price, no off peak tariffs? Is this correct ? I tried 2 market search engines and they both gave the same situation.
I also noticed they have early exit penalties? These are looking like phone contracts ! They don’t provide any equipment for you to pay on the drip .. and don’t say smart meter because that’s for their benefit.
