The wife has Arthritis so need a smallish SUV type.
The T Cross is perfect not to big but high enough.

Going to be two years before I change but I do like the MG ones.

Lots of people slate SUV small as pointless etc but as someone with dodgy knees and like your wife's case they are great for getting in and out of comfortably

2 years time there will be much more selective at cheaper price aswell

When we were looking for my wife's new car, she quite liked the idea of a higher one so it would be easier to get in and out. So one that we checked out was a Qashqai. She had trouble getting in because it was too high! Almost needed a step stool

There was a thread on my EV forum the other day where some guy wanted a car with 350 mile range for non stop driving, the conscious was without tech change at motorway speeds it's impossible, but charge speeds are coming up and 2 short 20 mins stops with every growing fast charging is a better way of handling than 1 longer stop

I mean I'm stuck my speed is 80kw so basically 45 mins to top up to what I need , but the ev6 for example can handle up to 350kwh chargers

So a 150kw charger would top that battery up ample in 20 mins and then stop again 20 mins in 200 miles time

On a side note I'm doing my first long trip Tuesday to weds

It's 320 miles total , my car does 250 max I'd say , planning for 200

Got a few chargers planned, one right next to my friends then back up on way home if that doesn't work

Should be good

Won't need to charge the first leg of the trip tho, can get from work to Southampton, then onto bath without touching s charger it's only the return from bath home

I would find that very concerning, driving that far without taking a break. It is why lorry drivers have a tacho fitted to ensure they take the required /recommended breaks.

I think the only justification that was accepted was if you had 2 drivers and swapped every few hours, then it really was a pain to have to stop

A lot of the endurance driving habits we have in the UK are just dangerous but socially accepted situations.

In my 20s I used to regularly do 222 miles to my mates in one hit, I'd never do that now. I remember once driving London to Leeds then home again with just one 5 mins wee break

I'd never consider these journeys now. The hour to work is taxing enough

That's 7 hours without a stop for lunch or dinner and must have a detrimental effect on the drivers concentration.

Like I said there are some serious dangerous views to acceptable driving practices in the UK.

However people do drive long distance with stops, they need to have decent a decent charging network provided. Destination chargers in car parks where people park overnight

Rapid chargers at services

And not token 5 chargers

At least 30 chargers with 2 cables on each enabling 60 cars to charge at once

It's coming but we do need a shift in attuide towards safe driving practices aswell, just because you can drive the entire way without stopping doesn't mean you should.

If you have Google Earth, calculate how long it takes to travel 50 miles.
From my house to Corby is 49 miles and would take 1hr 7min today

Return journey on bank holiday Monday was 7 hours, average speed 46 Mph.

Add both journeys together and it comes to 53 Mph!

However with all due respect we have bred unsafe driving habits

No way is 5 hours 15 and 7 hours driving safe.

Every 2 hours is a 15 min break recommended I believe

Even lorries have a max drive if 4 hours 30 no?

A quick stop , just to freshen up and grab a drink isnt going to drastically increase the journey but will reduce the risk of accident.

In my youth I used to drive 222 miles 4 hours think it was in one hit, I don't think I could safely manage it anymore

Tbh I don't know how safe it was when I did it. But I was young and even more stupid

Next week I'll be doing 310 miles in 2 days , but day 2 the way home is 150 miles 3 hours

I won't have the kids so in theory I could do it. Not sure if I feel safe doing it so will prob stop for a quick fresh air break at one of the services

Everyone’s different, I have the common sense to know when I need a break, I don’t actually need to be told by whoever to take a pee or have a cup of coffee.

The return journey of 7 hours had two long delays in traffic, I had a drink and ate some lunch then. No one in the car felt like a pit stop so bash on… Why would I want to turn a 7 hour journey into an 8 hour one.
