I'm definitely not clever enough or geeky enough to understand all this stuff.
I just plug it in once a week and after a couple hours, turn it off.
However, if I had 8p an hour overnight, I might learn

It does help that my whole house runs on they 7.5p rate because the battery fills up

I just did some interesting maths

1000kw export is the minimum a year I'll export via the solar. I get 15p a unit that's £150

As I buy at 7.5p that's 2000kw worth of charge I can buy for that £150

So 2000kw at 64kw battery for the car is 31 charges

Call it 220 miles a charge (nearer 250 but average 220 for argument sake) that's 6875 miles of EV miles that are paid for by the panels themselves

That's more than the konas yearly mileage and some left to cover 1/3rd of the kias yearly milage

Latest test worked the Kona fully charged in the cheap hours

Found an easier way to do aswell just plug in the same then slide to "max charge" and leave (with the schedule set in the car)

So Kia plug in let octopus select it's charge times (it will be ready when I have asked for)

Kona plug in and let the car just charge when it wants (in cheap hours)

Now I've confirmed all hypothesis I can work with the outcomes

All though I have already posted in random irritations.

My phone got smashed to bits Friday. Dragged out a phone from about 6 years ago and the OHME app would not load on to it.

I have now managed to dig out another slightly newer older phone and got it to download on that. However that phone will not download other apps I use (probably because it only has the lite version of android).

At least you have a temp fix

I think I'll put on my tablet incase lol

The more I hear and read here about the charging the more it puts me off EVs.

There is a lot to go wrong.

Again. Yes and no

If you just buy one and charge it whenever you want (ignore cheap rates just use standard) you can charge whenever you want plug and go

I just don't want to pay more than 7.5p a kw .. worth the effort 🤷‍♂️

You can also choose how much you pay for your fuel and whether you want to pay tax and VAT on it or not.
Petrol/diesel....£6-£8 per gallon...Govt. and billion dollar fossil fuel companies take their cut.

Ev £0-£6 per gallon

I get that but it’s the 40K to buy an equivalent that’s stopping me.

I don’t want a second hand car, by the way.

But that’s got nothing to do with the tech side of things!

Nearly new is the way to save a fortune tho just say 6 months even

And if you don't want second hand how many cars are below the 35k mark new?

VW T Cross £26000.
Nearest eq almost £40k.
Until that changes it’s a no from me.

My colleague just bought the id3 second hand 2 years old for 20k so that's the one that's same size as a golf

The id4 is the SUV that can be picked up for under 22k

If you must have brand new the mg ez starts at 30k and is well kitted out

The smart #1 starts from 31k now aswell and they are getting good reviews

The Volvo ex30 starts from 34k and that's suppose to be good

Car wow will have offers ofc

The wife has Arthritis so need a smallish SUV type.
The T Cross is perfect not to big but high enough.

Going to be two years before I change but I do like the MG ones.👍
