Did it work?

Yes and No..

When i went to bed, Octopus was set to start at midnight. Charger was supposed to just sit there. Car had strangely picked 3 pm to start charging.
The key idea as explained by Octopus was that... when midnight strikes, Octopus would initiate the charge. by 5:30 it would be all done

In reality.
1) Octopus initiated the charge at midnight. i went to bed happy
2) I woke up at 3 to check if it was working... and NO.. it had stopped!!!..
3) Since i had another 2 hrs of low price charging, i manually started the charge via the Charger App
4) Then i kept waking up every 90 mins to check if it was still working.
5) At 6, i stopped charging...

Now we know how the intelligent go works. This was the second time that the Charger cut off a session. So i called the Charger Tech support. after faffing around with some of the setting, they needed to update the firmware of the charger. It all happened in 10 mins.
So now I am all set for the new world.

However i have a 100m drive tomorrow, and my trust issue with tech. I am going to simply use the regular timer approach to dumb charge the car tonight. I am going to experiment on intelligent charging on Thurs night.... will update after that.

See as much as I love octopus and their model it's really making me wary of changing my charger

My podpoint cost me £600 think it was .. as it had the grant. Works well however isn't compatible with intelligent

I can get 3 types of charger that are now apparently. But the prices are proper fixed. Seems like no matter what it's about £1000, even tho the wiring is there and it's take off the charger and put new one on.

So call it £1000. With everyone's issues like this I just don't think it's worth it when my 4 hour window works ATM and is saving me £1000s through the battery

i m going to see if the firmware fixes it.... else i m just going to do a dumb charge based on a pre-set window. but it is amazing how much tech is involved and how much of your house is now remotely monitored.

For me aswell the podpoint looks so neat and tidy but I would want the ohme pro as it works with most and it looks terrible. The cable doesn't have anywhere to wrap around .. and you need a junction box you can't wire the cable into it.

The zappi I love but don't think other companies work with it for smart charging so would be painting into a corner

It seems to be very stressful owning an EV.

If I go to bed with 200 miles range in my ICE, knowing that I have to make a 120 mile journey the next day, I know I'm going to wake up and still have (give or take) 200 miles range. If I go to bed and my EV only has 40 miles range, but I've set it to charge (through the app, the charger or the car) on the cheap rate overnight, then I've got no idea what range I'm going to have when I wake up in the morning as it seems to be dependent on which way the wind is blowing and whether all of the different components have talked to each other during the night. And that's without considering the additional costs to buy the car in the first place and to get the charge point fitted at home.

I'm beginning to think that maybe EV isn't the way to go and we'd all be better off sticking to a series of small hydrocarbon explosions powering us from A to B.

You bought an EV to wake you up at 3am… why not just buy an alarm clock… :ROFLMAO:

I find it the most stress free experience in the world 🤔

I've got home tonight, set the wife's driving position with her and saved it on the memory seats and then gone to bed

I have 65% battery and 160 miles

I'll wake up , press heat up and get ready for work .. the car will heat the cabin and the steering wheel and I'll drive to work.

I don't see the stress 😬

All this proves is that we're all different with different likes and needs. We want a choice.
In 2010 your choice was Petrol or diesel (some LPG)
Now we have a choice.

Some want to keep their ICE. Fine. Keep it.
Some want a hybrid. Fine
Some want an EV with 250 miles of range. Fine
Some want a cheap EV run around. Fine.
Some want phase 3 home charging. Fine.
Some want 7kw/h home charging. Fine.
Some are happy with 3kw/h home charging. Fine.
Some want smart solar charging. Fine.

So now we have a choice.
Stick with your ICE and keep paying the billionaire oil companies or venture out into a brand new world.

This Kia is leagues above the Corsa. For one the app actually works lol 😆

Corsa you could pre condition via the app (which was hard to get working) or set up times (which I lived with for 3 years) and they car would be preheated etc for that time . It always used to set the car to 21 , cool or heat depending on the time of year and no ice to get rid

Now the Kia .. I can select any temp between 17-27 (21 for me)

Can select all of these which is a bonus

Now the old car had the heated wheel just had to press when you got in

I can even lock and unlock the car via the app which is very useful if I forget

I was showing off the party trick at work yesterday, the can be driven forward and backwards via the keyfob for when people park to close to you in a car park and you can't get in lol. I bet I never use in anger

Just be careful locking it with the phone app.

My daughter was visiting us and did just that but had inadvertently left her key in the car (she had her toddler with her so was unloading stuff). For some reason the app wouldn't then unlock the car!

Was a company car so she actually had to get the spare key sent to her as her employers held one key. She had to borrow wife's car for a few days until the key was delivered. Suffice to say she hasn't used the app function since
