The 3 cards are in!

You are correct in your assumption about the worse than doubles.

I'm still confused though....did you hand in a blow out, a +13 gross and a +11 gross?

I handed in an 85, an 83 and an 81, only the best card gets the going over....

Hahaha Handicap system is a funny one. I shot two 89's and an 87 which included an Eagle on the 18th and mine is 19 :D

Well, Tony, yours is spot on on the 87.
A good sec' will ignore the eagle made off yellows for sure.
87 is 20 over yellow SSS, 19 over white SSS.

Don't know if the system's changed but when I got my handicap it was given on the basis of my best card out of the 3.
Is that not the case these days? If i'd gone round in +11 then i'd have been given 11.

(As it happens it was +15 but that's another story!)

One was for +11 and the other +13.

I see you ignoring my question HTL.... :D

If you put in 3 cards that included a gross 11 over, you have the wrong handicap.....

I'm surprised you don't want to clear up this confusion....

Sorry fella didnt mean to upset you. I read your reply late last night and have been Golf cruising + playing since then.

I am well happy with the handicap I have. I play around that number when I play well, the 2 ace scores (11, 13) were once in a blue moon occurrence and included a hell of a lot of luck.

Like I said, I have handed in 30+ cards to the pro over the last few weeks regardless of who / when I have played and he has based it upon that.

Use today for example off 17 I came back with 31 points, not good!

HTL....My club is a member of the EGU and I quote directly from their literature.

To obtain a handicap a player must be a member of an affiliated golf club and shall submit such number of cards over 18 holes as his Home Club requires, but not less than three, at his Home Club (preferably over a Measured Course) each of which shall be signed by a person acceptable to the Handicapping Committee. Any score of more than 2 over par at any hole shall be amended to 2 over par. After these adjustments have been made an Exact Handicap shall be allotted equivalent to the number of strokes by which the best of the submitted rounds differs from the Standard Scratch Score. The Handicap Committee may allot a player an initial whole number Exact Handicap less than the best score if it has reason to consider that a lower handicap is more appropriate to the player’s ability. In exceptional circumstances a higher handicap may be allotted than that indicated by the best score.

Most clubs expect you to out in 3 cards....you're suggesting somehow that you've handed in 30??? what's that all about.

In exceptional circumstances a higher handicap may be allotted than that indicated by the best score.

Sounds pretty exceptional to me that you handed in a card of 11 over and then got a h'cap of 17......

It's not a question of if you are happy with it. It is what it is......

There must be some confusion somewhere.....

Ok, whatever your point is you win. You obviously really love handicaps much more than me. Really cant be arsed to argue it I got a certificate saying im off 17 im happy with it end of.

Last time I will say this, I HANDED IN ALL OF THE CARDS I MARKED WHENEVER I KNOCKED A BALL AROUND. THIS ADDED UP TO 30+.

If you want me to be off 11, 28, 17 or scratch when you play me I don't care. Its just a handicap.

My point (I guess) was to say that one way or the other (good or bad) you've not really been assigned a h'cap in the normal way. My hope for you is that it is the right figure.

If it's your first h'cap, then huge congratulations on such a good number, I think 17 is very good.

It's none of my business anyway, so I apologise for raising the question. I mean that sincerely, it's your day (so to speak) and I'm pleased you got it sorted.

I hope you win a few comps and/or send good news of some good results.

Apologies.

Virtual beer your way fella, no problems.

Hope I take some money home at Lydd and combine with Homer to reform to dream team to maintain our unbeaten run.

I was shocking with the big dog today on the range (and my irons) but had a putting lesson and was sinking them from all over the place. My pitching is good and I'll be working on my game this week after the medal is out of the way tomorrow. I'm pretty happy that I'll be playing ok on Friday with HTL and Mattdeeks and then ready to fire on Saturday.

HTL, I am glad you got your 17 h/cap. Nice work. Nice first h/cap, mine was 18, so you beat me there.

On the plus side, you didn't beat me round your own gaff off 22, or at RA either.

I sense a win/win situation here for me.

Any chance of proper money on it next time?

As an aside, despite my poor show in the medal today (a buffer zone 85 net 74), I have been playing well recently, having made a few swing changes in FL. My last 3 holiday rounds being 78, 78, 79. That said, they don't have 8" deep wet rough 6ft off the green.

Murph

HTL is coming back to Ascot on Friday off his new mark so you'll be able to gauge his progress. To be fair I think its probably 2 shots too low but he's put all the cards in ad that is the number he's got.

I think we both know he has the game to be better and as my dream team partnership (still unbeaten) its a double edged sword. As much as I want him to get as low as he can he's good value and it great that he gets the shots. I'm hoping he'll play in the members/guest day later in the year as think we have good chances.
