Just a quick question or even a bit of advice.
We have a member of our 4 ball who’s incredibly slow.
Always lose a hole on the group in front, group behind waits on every shot.
We’ve tried playing faster between the other 3 to make up for how slow he is.
Would you mention to him how slow he is, hoping he’ll speed up?
You always have a feeling if you mention to someone they are slow, they will take offence.

Would you say you were mates with him? Surely there is scope for you all to give him banter and ribbing about it, rather than coming across as a serious discussion? "Come on, I've seen continental drift move quicker than you" and that sort of thing?

Wouldn’t say he was that kind of mate, he’s a nice fella, but not your typical micky taking banter like the other lads.

We have a similar playing partner, we have tried asking him to tee off first, it helps a little as he feels that need to get going and also allows more time for ‘put the club back in the bag faff’

If he is that slow that's his choice. He's paid his subs, no-one has the right to tell him to play faster.
However if he is losing holes on the group in front and holding people up, he has to call faster players through.
Then he has the choice of speeding up or playing later

If he has ignored all of the hints, subtle or not, you ultimately have a choice. Have a brutal conversation with him or suck it up. Neither are pleasant options but if it affecting your enjoyment, it would me, then that has to take precedence. Your membership, your enjoyment, is more important to you than his. Why should you lose enjoyment to accommodate him?

I don't envy you the situation, it is not fun.

And there are multiple other members who pay their subs and would expect every member to be respectful and play according to basic pace of play etiquette and keeping up with the group in front as a basic principle

This is so typical of a lot of posts on the internet - why do people ask about things on the internet without bringing it up with the person (or company) first? Can I send my fridge/TV/shampoo back as it is faulty? Can I get compensation for a delayed flight/train/taxi? Someone has stolen my washing/plants adn so it goes on.
Speak to the individual that can actually solve hte problem and not the internet.

End of rant.

True it’s his choice, but his slow play not only affects the group behind but also the group he is in.
You need a little bit of consideration for other people.

Because it’s a golf forum, we talk about all aspects of golf, and just asking if other people have had a similar situation.

Because it’s a golf forum and there might be someone or some people who have had the same issues and come up with a solution - it’s a more personal Google
