A 5 ball 🤷‍♂️

Well that won’t help pace of play
Do you actually read any of my posts? or just like to disagree with anything I write? Read my post again and tell me how we are holding anything up....... The Capt of the club didn't mind. The 2 ball behind them (and all the other groups behind them) lost ground to our group.

Personally....I don't care if there is an 8 ball in front of me if they can move fast enough.

One of the guys in our group has lots of players who were (still are) getting at him. He even asked others if he was slow but he did not like the answers he got back, I got told "it is not me that is slow, that is you!!" Lots of other players in the club frequently moan about him.

One big problem is that he also has a problem with etiquette and does not let others play through despite having a lot of opportunity to do so.

No matter what he tries he always slips back in to his old ways, too many too list.

As comp/ rules sec one organiser asked me if there was anything in the rules so they could make all the slow players play last but the simple answer is no.

A lot of the slow play issues comes from the lack of awareness of what’s going on

We had one who was always slow , and it was because of the way he acted before and after when it comes to PsR and mainly the need to practice multiple times the shot he just played -

Then there are those that just don’t understand ready golf - someone had a go at me during the midweek medal because I went first when he said “it’s my honour” - he just couldn’t get his head around ready golf when people were playing whilst he was faffing around

Ga I can't believe these views still come up, it's 2024 for crying out loud , but then we get people claiming single players have no standing still

Anyways yes ready golf so simple, I normally tee off first if it's slow especially as I'm the shortest hitter on average so I go first then by time the next person is up the group has got out of their range and so on

One of my best mates used to stand over the ball for ages. It was like a mental block, when he was off 29-30 odd, almost like he was nervous to hit it, going over bad scenarios in his mind. He'd do a normal practice swing, address the ball, then 20-30 seconds later he would finally hit it. One time me and my other mate started looking at each other as if he was broken and started chuckling once he'd finally hit it, and he looked at us like "what?". He had no idea he was taking that long. Nowadays as he's improved to around 23 he has more or less eradicated the long pause.

It did reappear once this year as he was over a putt for ages and afterwards he said, "Oh sorry - I started thinking about the guy who cut me up when I was driving here this morning." :ROFLMAO:

On your latter point - I've still heard someone say 'single players have no standing' in the last couple of years. The mind boggles.

Because it’s a golf forum, we talk about all aspects of golf, and just asking if other people have had a similar situation.

Yes a good point. Has this topic ever been discussed before on this forum? I think someone might have mentioned slow play once, but that was a long time ago.

Asking for a (slow) friend.

Slow play may have cropped up once in the middle of a dress code thread

You know....doing up the buttons on your tweed jacket slows everyone down.

We have a guy in our swindle who is very slow. We try to speed him up with banter but it has mixed results. If you are drawn to play with him, then you need to be prepared to let other groups through. It's not unusual to finish 30-40 minutes after the others in our swindle as a result. It is what it is.

You always have a feeling if you mention to someone they are slow, they will take offence.
If he gets upset that's his problem.
He's upsetting everyone else in the group, why should you worry about upsetting the person who's causing the problem.
Tell him straight, unless he quickens his pace, you'll find someone else to play.
Then it's his choice

If he is that slow that's his choice. He's paid his subs, no-one has the right to tell him to play faster.
However if he is losing holes on the group in front and holding people up, he has to call faster players through.
Then he has the choice of speeding up or playing later
I think it is the duty of everyone in his group to tell him to speed up.

If it's not matchplay, it's ready golf. If you want the 'honour' then you'd better be ready to hit, then you can have it still. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I wasn't really assuming 😉 I thought sod this, I'm going! 😁

One club I'm a member of has issued an instruction exactly like you say. Ready golf in everything except club matchplay comps.

The other (where this happened) hasn't, but ought to!

I would say to him, that the daylight hours are closing in, and we like everyone else has to be a little quicker or mindful of everyone else.
Holding the course behind you up isn't on, and you can't be the ones held responsible for it.

Could also say I'd like to be home for Christmas 🎁

I was moaned at last week for "assuming" we were playing ready golf. The guy in question had been searching in his bag for a pencil and a tee. I guess there were no pockets in his trousers!🤣🤣
The last place you should put a tee or a lone pencil is in your pocket. The searing pain when one or the other jabs up under the quick of your fingernail is testament enough to that. :ROFLMAO:

do what I do...chew your nails down to pain level and the tee has no effect.
However a pitch mark repair tool is a totally different animal..;)
