Sky or Virgin

Virgin all day long, the broadband is awsome, I pay for hte whole shebang, tis a little pricey, but then I don't drink (much) don't smoke so one offsets the other.

Broadband for me is a must on the VIP package I've got 100mg BB, need it as my daughter is downloading all the time, my other half is never off face book and it's handy when I work from home.

Downside is that there is no HD F1 channel or HD SS3 and 4 a regular 3D channel would be nice as well, but Virgin are improving all the time.

The V plus boxes are a little cumersome to use menu wise, but the Tivo box is fantastic, knocks the spots off the Sky+ box.

existing Sky customer, with Sky+ HD; Fibre High Speed broadband; landline; anytime calls; standard TV Entertainment package; Sky Go.

Been offered Sky Q upgrade (inc new router) plus Sky Sports for £23/month - with no up front Sky Q installation charge.

Worth it? My total monthly cost will be £93/month. That feels quite a lot but I seem to be getting quite a lot. Might be able to get my phone package reduced.

I realise this is a seven year old thread, but we have just bought a new Sony TV and enquired with Sky about their Ultra HD Q Box. Sky supplied a 2tb box with no installation charge and a £15 / month increase on our bill. The TV picture is superb, but the only channel that I've found so far that is in Ultra HD is Sky F1 which isn't really on my watch list. Incidentally if you anyone is considering an upgrade to Ultra HD, only the 2tb box supports it.

All premier league footy (and other sports and i think some movies) are in UHD too, you will need to ensure you use HDMI 2.0 cables and obviously that your TV is suitable and you cannot watch UHD via one of your mini boxes, only from the main 2TB box.

Cheers Clive. Offer I have been given - as I am a 'special long standing' customer - is £13/month for Ultra HD Sky Q. Not sure if it is 2tb box - but was being sold the Ultra HD capability (if I had an Ultra HD TV - which I don't) so I assume that it is.

Thanks, I only have the one Television and never watch football. The TV is a Bravia 4K and the standard HD picture is superb but it is too complex for my aged brain!

The attraction of Sky Q is largely around the fact that I cannot get Sky onto my best TV which happens to be in our back room when our Sky box is in front room. SkyQ seems to sort that for me.

The main Sky Q box in my front room will get the dish signal and will connect wirelessly to the secondary Sky Q Box in the back room - and where the router lives. So nice strong wireless signal from router to the TV in back room - and the router booster will give a stronger wireless signal to the TV in the front room 0- and that's also been an issue.

So Sky Q sorts these two issues.

Not sure I really need Sky Sports. But at £10/month it's not such a big deal. I do miss my golf. And install is free.

Threaten to leave Sky and they'll give you Sky Q for less than Sky+

Do the same with TalkTalk and they'll give you their best phone and fibre optic package for more or less the same as the standard phone and broadband package.

Well that's what they did for me but they may not like South Africans........😉😂😂

That was years ago. I don’t pay for broadband as I work from home and the company pay for it (y)

Sky Q is the mutts!! Love it

I switched to Sky Q, from Sky HD+, around a year ago as there was a deal on for the Sky Q as a black/diamond Sky VIP member. I got the silver box that supports UHD. Sky can only, if I’m right, supports two UHD live broadcasts only at one time. This is usually F1 and football. The quality is very good, assuming you have a very good TV. Note that it is not perfect due to Sky compression. It’s the same for their UHD films. The mini boxes are HD only so can’t stream UHD to them. As part of the install we got the mesh extender...it’s been flawless. The kit is loaned/rented.

Regarding pricing. At the near end of my contract, I go back to Sky and ask for 40% off my TV bills and similar for BB. It works. Recently I got a free upgrade on my BB from 36 to 70 megs, without me asking.

I'm with Virgin, been with them nigh on 20yrs, got the max package, so 200mg plus cable Internet, Tivo box in the living room and another 2 in the house, never had any issues with them.

but...

Just had a letter from them saying they are put the price up £4.50 a month.

They have great new customer deals, but they will be few and far between and my understanding is that Virgin are mainly focused on customer retention as they have lost quite a few long standing customers.

For TV I have Sky and my son has Virgin

For me Sky wins

My main reason for having Sky is because I watch a lot of films and a lot of American TV channels such as Sky Atlantic plus sport.

Broadband is a different matter he has Virgin mainly because he wants really fast broadband particularly as he is an online gamer.

I use BT for broadband because its superfast (38mb where I live) is ample for my needs eg Netflix works well on either my service or his.
