Skoda Octavia

I've just bought 1 myself, in December
Skoda Octavia 1.6tdi Elegance.
What's not to like.....
Good looking motor, reliable, good engine, real nice interior, plenty toys, big boot for golf gear, free tax, about 55mpg just "around the doors".....better on a run, so cheap to run
I'd say over half the taxis in Newcastle are Skoda, which is a sure sign, they can take a good hammering and survive

The question of 1.6 or 2.0 is entirely up to the op, I've no idea what his thoughts are, or use for the car
The 1.6 is slightly more economical, and IMO a real good all round family car too
Bigger problem may be finding a 2.0 in our area, in December when I was looking, not a single one in Newcastle area, closest was in Stockport.....

Went ages ago. The Octavia is a good car, based on the chassis plsn of the Passat IIRC not long after VAG took charge. The VRS is an absolute beast (petrol one). My mate has the VRS Estate and it is frightening quick.
One drawback is that, as with all VAG cars, parts are not cheap if you go OEM. In fact, extortion was a word that came to mind when he had to replace a cam position sensor.

Octy is based on firstly the golf, then the MQB platform.
