Can't believe that English didn't call fore on his opening tee shot and as a result, it smashed some poor bloke in the head.

I hope the incident continues to have an affect on his round.

Sooner or later a spectator in the US will sue for damages when they get hit and a glove ain't going to do it. By not shouting surely some hot shot lawyer will prove negligence. It'll cost a pro mega bucks some day

I'd imagine the course/competition is covered... or the pro already has his own insurance. It'll just add to the cost of public entry fees.

I don't understand how people can expect to go to a touney and expect to stand on the egde of the fairway at 'driver range' and not have a few close calls... maybe watching the ball or wearing hard hats would help.

I think not shouting fore would give a decent lawyer enough ammo to sue the pants off one of these pros. It's clearly negligent and certainly "bad form"

With 1000 or more lining the fairway, the ball could have gone anywhere - who's he calling to?
Yes, he should shout but if he doesn't it ain't gonna make a difference in a place like Sawgrass.
YOu go to a Golf event, you stand alongside the fairway, you have to expect to have a near-miss or even get hit - occupational hazard.
The person who was hit - what responsibility do they take to ensure their own safety?

Any legal action will just see the roping perametres moved back further , which at an even like sawgrass would ruin spectating full stop. At a links event it wouldnt be so bad, but it will still effect the experience of visiting a big event.

The only safe option is to do away with fairway lined viewing and have tee & green side viewing only.

Surely that's better than someone dying from a donk on the head caused by an off line drive. If the guy was told he was in danger simply ducking wouldve meant the ball went over his head...

I'm to saying the guys died btw...it's just a possibility.

I agree dave. I used to caddie as a kid, in 5 years I didn't get hit, but I was unlucky enough to get hit twice in the same round (5 holes apart), both contacts were to the head but both were lucky enough to have pitched first to take some power out of it.

I was lucky that the old boys who hit me old hit 200 yards max, so the power the ball would have landed with would have been around half of what that old chap was faced with

The course changed owners a few years later and got rid of caddies, I beleive the potential claim was a factor

It's the people standing next to the tee that actually worries me.... just one duck hook and the guy at the end of the row will know about it.... 300yds down the fairway you take your chances!

Not sure if the sh*t will hit the fan if a child gets one in the face..... time will tell.

Some sports have an element of risk to them if you want to spectate... you just have to choose if you want to be there or not....
