Scotland Job

They're still clearing away the empty whisky bottles and oatcake wrappers from the street party after Levein was given the dunt. Wee Strachan is the safe line.

Wee Chesney is as Craw says the safe line.

Best of a poor bunch that were on the SFA's radar.

I wanted them to be brave and spend a bit for a well respected foreign coach but that was never going to happen from a bunch of brain dead idiots.

Safe option I agree and definately best of a bad bunch.

How it pans out is anyones guess, I still feel we have a basis of a reasonable line up (midfield and strikers) when all fit with the likes of

Darren Fletcher, Brown, Forest, McArthur, Steven Fletcher and Rhodes. Defence is ropey though.

I think we could do worse but there again I thought Levien was a good pick!!!

Only Muppets with tangerine or maroon tinted specs thought he was a good choice. An absolute disgrace and cheap option so they got what they deserved by appointing a man who has only ever won a diddy league with Cowdenbeath.

I'm looking forward to his press conference, he doesn't like the media at all. Can't see him doing much with the national team, he's hardly a first rate manger but it will probably please the fans initially and won't cost a fortune.

Not unhappy with the choice but not inspired either. Definitely the best option that I've heard linked with the job though and at least he's achieved something at club level. No chance of qualifying for brazil so I hope we won't see any of the players who've been letting us down over the last decade selected any more. Strachan should be allowed the time to build a new squad with up and coming younger players.

He did take Coventry down but the board sold the mainstays of his very good (for that club) team from under him leaving him pissing against the wind.

His only failure so far has been at Boro who were in decline long before he came but he had the decency to hold his hands up and walk away without any compo needing paid.

I would go as far as saying all his teams have been pretty mediocre sides when he took over yet has got them punching way above their weights and playing decent stuff with it.

To say that Chesney did a poor job at either Coventry or Southampton is utter pish.

Not with Boro, played 46 games and got 52 points, albeit over 2 seasons but that's only just escaping relegation form over a season. That said Boro had/have little funds but Mowbray has done much better under the same conditions

As I said that has been his only 'failure'.

But was it a failure?Middlesboro is a nothing football town who's good years were down to the owner chucking cash around and even then they couldn't fill their stadium. They are, and have been for a while, at their level.

They did fill their stadium in the EPL or near enough. Same as a lot of clubs of similar stature, throw money at them, get them in the EPL and the crowds will come. However Steve Gibson realised he couldn't go on paying 60k a week in wages, it would have killed the club. The drop in crowds was inevitible with them dropping out of the EPL and crowds declining in general. I agree they're at their level though, they've always been a bit of a yo yo club. Strachan was still a failure, Mowbray has had less money and has done a much better job.

I don't think you'll find many arguing that he was a failure at 'Boro. He has been decent every where else. Now you mention Mowbray and Steachan as polar opposites in terms of success, that happened at their previous club too ;)

TM is one of the worst Celtic managers I'd ever seen and he had a bit of cash to spend too but its got to be a toss up between him and Lou Macari as the worst.
