RRP of balls. Is it getting beyond ridiculous?

Anyone gaming the V300 driver from Slazenger ? £21.99. Beautiful club. Upgrade with the graphite shaft is £24.99.

Launches bombs, with a forgiveness that makes it feel like cheating. Gentle baby draw that just goes and goes, with great roll out. Tight dispersion, so you can really feel confident that not only will you hit the fairway, you can choose where on the fairway you want to position it. Probably their longest driver yet, with a great trajectory. The graphite shaft is a BEAST, and where the real magic is in this beauty. Gives incredible control, and generates such raw power you almost feel you have to hold it back at times.
Stylish looks will turn heads when you bag it and have your mates wanting to trade up from their Stealths and G425s.

And pick up a dozen V100 Distance ball while they are going for £8.
’Gaming’ a club I ‘bag’…nah not for me.?

Around the greens yes. But with a driver?

3. IF IT SPINS OFF THE DRIVER, IT SPINS OFF THE WEDGE
While ball manufacturers often differentiate between driver and iron/wedge spin, the reality is that, if a ball spins of a driver, it’s going to spin off irons and full (and even partial) wedge shots, too.

2. SOFT DOESN’T SPIN

While there is not an absolute correlation between compression and spin, the same design principles that make a ball soft invariably lead to a ball that’s lower spinning.

Thanks, you saved me a job there. :)

Cheers. So the premium Titliest balls and the TourSpeed are longer off the tee (for me) despite spinning more!

Where I find the premium balls really separate themselves is around the greens.

I find the Titliest balls more durable than some of the cheaper competitors. Vice balls are terrible for cutting up.

As usual with golf, if something is working for you then stick with it!
Titleist do regularly review well on quality control, sure they'd refer to that if trying to justify the RRP

Great post. If you shuddered reading this, and you've never hit these, (and I'm including myself in this) it's the effect of brand marketing.

But, it shows you can play golf very cheaply if you want.

I think the whole economy is based on ignoring this advice. The number of people driving round in Range Rovers and other big expensive SUVs is a good illustration.

Probably won't be long before a subscription based golf ball financing company starts advertising on here :ROFLMAO:
People will have to start buying drivers on PCPs then

Not disagreeing with this - but I seem to remember MY GOLF SPY saying that golf balls have evolved the most over the years and playing a ‘good’ ball is worth it - in that a ball from 2022 would be remarkably more forgiving / go further ie better for your game, than a ball of circa 2002

Relative I suppose. Was in a golf shop yesterday when a guy came in and bought 3 doz. Pro V1x at £45 per dozen (no discount!). He told the chap serving he was a pilot living in the UAE and they were over £100 per dozen there so this was a bargain!

There are plenty of good quality and well priced golf brands out there, but slazenger are not one of those. Cheap sport direct crap these days.

Zero difference between distances of any golf balls when putting. The forces involved in a putter striking the ball are too low for the construction to influence the energy imparted.

Not something I would agree with from carrying out various trials and tests unless you are testing and comparing fairly similar golf balls in the first place. Long time since I bothered, my tests at the time showed a Topflite XL went about 30% further from the same putt than a very soft balata wound ball, and a mid range surlyn wound about 15%.

I found a Titleist balata recently…do they still make them? Felt like I was I a time warp for a moment.

I still have a load in the shed they are great for across the lawn pitching practice but I would guess in the main the windings have long since gone to shreds.. One of the reasons Titleist was so late to the high spin 3 piece solid balls was probably because so many pros could not make the move in the early days due to be under contract to Titleist. I reckon they may have got very envious watching Bernard Langer and a couple of others being able to play the Strata.

This is very true with a two piece ball.

This does not quite equate with the philosophy of a 3 or more piece golf ball.

The original 3 piece solid high greenside spin ball was the (Topflite) Strata, the original ball was nothing more than a Topflite XL with the extra mantle layer between the outer cover and inner core.
The idea (which was proven) is that when the ball is hit with a straight faced club the outer cover does not slip and reduces spin when compared to when a ball is hit with a wedge when the outer cover will slip next to the mantle thus creating a lot more spin.

This may be a bit of history though as manufacturing processes may now have changed.

Oh how I miss those smiley faces on the tour balata balls after a thinned shot ;)

If you think Slazenger are bad then you should have tried the old Donnay clubs that they used to stock. School mate of mine spent his paper round money on a driver, iron & putter ready for our Saturday morning pitch and putt session. The driver and iron never made it to the back 9!

Oh, Slazenger.

Slazenger ADL Bobby Locke set bought very recently.

Total cost was a lot less than the steel shaft V300 driver from Sports Direct.

Nothing like playing golf with some classic old clubs for maximum pleasure.

It seems to me, the less I pay for golf equipment, the more I enjoy playing.

Stop your moaning and take up vintage golf. You know it makes (non)sense
