RRP of balls. Is it getting beyond ridiculous?

Oh, Slazenger.

Slazenger ADL Bobby Locke set bought very recently.

Total cost was a lot less than the steel shaft V300 driver from Sports Direct.

Nothing like playing golf with some classic old clubs for maximum pleasure.

It seems to me, the less I pay for golf equipment, the more I enjoy playing.

Stop your moaning and take up vintage golf. You know it makes (non)sense

HEAR, HEAR!

And I'll add:

I bought some pearl A ad333 from a forum member known for selling good lake balls…. they were definitely not good quality and the painted name wore off most within 6-9 hole. I took them to my local range, hit them there and let them cycle through the range over coming months.

Smiffy hit the nail on the head, if you’re good enough to need a proV then you shouldn’t lose many and cost just over the price of a Starbucks, good value at 5p per shot, if your wild enough to be losing 2-3 a round invest the money in lessons and buy cheaper balls.
I’d never buy refinished or refurbished ones. That’s asking for trouble. I’ve never had one issue with premier lake balls as they filter all the dodgy ones out of their top grades.

Is it provs that have a different colour core with each update ?

The differences in balls, being immeasurable for all golfers but maybe the best 1000, as far as scoring goes, makes ball preference a fashion choice rather than a golfing one.
Like shirt brand choice.
Some do like to pay £70 for a Footjoy etc. Some are happy with a middle range UA. Some are happy with the Warbird or Ultra of the shirt world , Benross or Stubart. Or, cripes, maybe even a Slazenger (are they even allowed in some clubs?). Footjoy/Penta, Primark/Warbird ? You will still be signing your card for the same score.

Are you trying to say that no amateur golfer can tell the difference between a premium ball and a none premium ball? I'd say from 80yards in every mid/low teen handicap up, could tell the difference and would benefit from the additional control.

There's more....
2 balls from the same refurb box of Bridgestones
More likely just different iterations of same model.
Rick Shiels did a video recently on refurbed ProV1s and said exactly that. He cut loads of them open and decided they were definitely all ProV1s, but some of them could have been a decade old, so the flight and feel on them was completely different to the newer ones.

I'm pretty well stocked for brand new balls and don't think I'll be buying any in the next 12 months.
However, if I did need any right now, it would be either or both of these deals,

4 dozen balls for £61 anyone?

As for £50+ for premium balls, it has already been said early in the thread, Good=Expensive and Very Good=Very Expensive is successful golf-marketing rather than true cost/value.

Exactly, when you buy refurbished balls you should cut each one in half before using it, so you know precisely what you’re playing with. Bit of araldite and sellotape then you’re good to go, and you’ll feel much more confident standing over the ball because you know what you’re playing.

That's the biggest problem with these , you could be playing a ball that's 10 or more years old and spent most of that time outside in who knows what conditions.

Yup, I'd much rather play brand new low'ish to mid-priced balls rather than seconds/lakes of the higher mid to top of the range. Far more predictable performance
