just read that Barry Lane has sadly passed away, only 62, after a short illness

Saw him a number of times at the Dunhill Masters when it was at Woburn

He always had time for a chat with the crowd or a quip with his playing partners

Will have to read up on whether he ever tried his hand in the U.S or was happy playing the European Tour, as was

Glad he got a mention on the BBC homepage as many folks under a certain age won't of necessarily heard of him.

That’s really sad news. Always liked Barry Lane. The classic journeyman in many respects, but always came across as the sort of guy I’d want to share a round and a beer with.

Followed him on Twitter, he said he was struggling with his health a few days back, but didn’t realise it was so serious.
Sad loss of a seemingly likeable man. RIP

Former Royal Ascot junior player back in the day and he flew in on the Monday after finishing 2nd in an ET event the day before to honour an agreement to open our new course. Real gent that I was lucky enough to speak to a number of times over the years including the British Par 3 and Seniors event at Forest of Arden. Very good golfer unlucky to be playing in a time when Europe had such strength in depth or he would have won more

Sad to hear this news today, followed Barry a few times on the golf course and always enjoyed watching him play. Saw a short video of him hitting a few balls on the range at the end of November and he looked quite thin. Was it cancer that took him?

Spoken online to a couple of members who know him well and no-one seems certain but this is a picture of him presenting the Barry Lane trophy to the seniors tour rookie of the year and he looks painfully thin. If the tour renamed the trophy I assume it was on the cards

Saddened to hear the news. l always tended to follow him in the results as I played at Downshire for several years.

His greatest achievement was probably winning the inaugural Andersen Consulting World Championship of Golf (1995)

Sounds as though he knew he didn't have long left...

"Phil Harrison, CEO Legends Tour added: “Barry joined us at MCB Tour Championship, Mauritius last month and this was a very emotional few days for Barry, Camilla and his golfing friends and family, but it was a celebration and a time to reflect on a life well lived. On behalf of the Legends Tour, our thoughts are with Camilla and Barry’s family and friends.”"
