Random Irritations

Making a howler at work and not being able to sleep because of it.
Hope you get things sorted.

What he said.

Remember, you have a ‘credit’ at work. If all the good you’ve done far outweighs the odd up cock, you’ve got nowt to worry about.

Things happen. Roll your sleeves up and do a stellar job putting it right…

I've had it both ways. Sometimes the insurance is covered, sometimes not. The first time it wasn't, it was quite a shock but it's been more common since.

Been thinking about the insurance policies we get for our own car. Appreciate that different policies have different T&C’s but I seem to remember my previous policies only covering 3rd party damage when driving someone else’s car.

I’d hate to have crashed a courtesy car and had to foot the bill 100%, my policy only covering the damage I’d done to the car I’d hit…

I think I’d be asking my insurance company what cover my policy provided if I was driving a courtesy car.

As others say, mistakes happen but (imo) the most important thing to do is to fess up immediately. Trying to cover things up and the bosses finding out later down the line will only lead to more serious issues. Let them know what has gone wrong, and if possible, what needs to be done to put things right.

Sorry to hear that.
Get it sorted asap for your own peace of mind but first thing is tell someone.
Nothing over the top but start with I ain’t slept all bleeding night because of this.
It often isn’t as bad as you think it is, a bit like visiting the dentist.
Mistakes happen every second of every day it’s how we respond to them that shows our true character.

There’s always a way of getting a reply.

Several years ago I had a very healthy credit balance with my gas supplier. I wanted it refunded and a reduction in my direct debit, as I was clearly paying way over the odds.

They wouldn’t answer the phone, reply to emails or respond to “live” chat. I tried multiple times over a couple of weeks. In the end I just cancelled my direct debit.

Within 24 hours they were all over me like a tramp diving on a half eaten bag of chips.

Trouble is failed DDs can affect your credit score.

Had a courtesy car for 5 weeks, 3 years ago and was definitely on.their insurance but would have to have paid a £800 excess
Had a funny a few years ago when needing such a car.

I was told I would have to pay the same XS as my own policy and was asked the amount, you should have seen their faces when I told them £50.

You ring them up and put that vehicle on your insurance for a limited amount of time. I’ve done it a few times, and the cover for the loan vehicle is the same as for my own.

Not if cancelled by the account holder, surely. In my days working in banking (over 30 years ago, admittedly) direct debits returned unpaid were either due to lack of funds or because no mandate was held, either because it hadn’t been set up at all or had been cancelled.

No mandate is not evidence of a poor credit rating, unless there’s something I’m unaware of.

No, it absolutely cannot. The only thing that can affect your credit score is if you then allow the account to trigger the arrears process (usually triggered 14 days beyond due). Simply a failed DD in isolation won't have any impact.

Battersea Apple Store.
I booked online for a service appointment this morning - a new battery for my aging iPhone SE.
"It should be ready to pick up by 3.30."
"Seriously? The website gives the impression it's a 'While you wait' service."
"Yes it does. Sorry. We have asked them to change that. Would you like to trade in for an upgrade instead?"

Even if I wanted to I wouldn't buy direct from Apple.
The 16e is £50 less expensive at pretty much every other retailer. Even then it's ~£550 for the cheapest iPhone.
And now that they've wrecked Google Maps in Carplay I'm slightly tempted to go back to Android.

Nothing can possibly be so bad you would consider crossing over to the dark side! I went from Apple to Android for the duration of one contract, many years ago, and returned at the earliest opportunity. Found Android an awful operating platform in comparison.

I saw your irritation regarding Maps and can’t understand what’s happened there. I use both Maps and Google Maps in CarPlay almost daily, and haven’t noticed any similar problem. Might be worth uninstalling the app and having another go.
