Random Irritations

It’s not whether they are adept at negotiating discounts, it’s just that many assume, that a trusted supplier (bank or insurance company) to whom they have been loyal for decades, will renew their policy at their best rate.
In fact the opposite is true. They continue to increase the price every year for these people at the ridiculous initial offer, then increase it the following year x% higher than last year’s ridiculous offer.

One example from my parents in law who were paying over £1500 a year for their home and contents insurance. The provider kept on upping the price year on year, nothing to do with the market price. When we took over we did a comparison and could not find any provider who quoted more than £400 on a like for like basis.

The dodgy ‘fly by night’ provider who were happy to charge their customer nearly 4 times more than the most expensive option? The high street bank with whom they had been loyal customers for over 40 years.
As I say, an odious business practice.
Tesco Bank tried to double my B&C renewal premium this year. I emailed CEO saying "No thanks"
According to their T&C's I could only cancel by phone. They phoned to tell me this and I said "Speak to your CEO who got my cancellation notice".
They sent me a Default Notice and instructed Debt Collectors who quickly escalated by texting, writing, emailing and phoning me over a week or so. I sent the Collectors CEO a Cease and Desist letter to which he immediately responded despite his minions harassment. Tesco then called to say they'd withdraw once I replied to an email I'd get next day.
The email was long, formal, convoluted and contained a demand that I supply full detail of my new cover - provider, policy number, premium, DD details etc.
I stood my ground, ignored it and heard no more.
How many people in my position, ie "elderly", would take on a challenge of court action? I believe a high % would fold through fear and distress.

Why did you try to be clever and go straight to the CEO? If you had just followed the proper process then all that could have been avoided.

Most elderly wouldn't have been in your position as they would have rung up and cancelled. No need for any court action.

Bad sign-posting. I've got diagrams here, so strap in. 😄

I'm driving this way (blue arrow), intending to go up Northwood Way and straight onto Hillside Road..

Where I've put the red asterisk, there is a sign up saying "Road Ahead Closed" and a "Diversion" sign pointing right. So on Wednesday morning I turned right immediately, went down that main road that sent me into a whole world of traffic, which I assumed was because everyone had been diverted that way.

This morning though I just ignored it because I saw other cars driving up there regardless. And where was the actual road closure? Here...

Completely irrelevant side-road that doesn't affect my journey at all! Why does it say 'road ahead closed', that's not the bloody road ahead is it?? That's a road to the side!!

Nothing better to do and like to feel they have got one over the company.

I'm a customer, why not?
My email invited him to explain why he thought it was fair to increase my premium by 100%. (or if he was even aware).
I wasn't aware of their "rule" that I had to ring them.
Instead of a civil reply they chose to escalate a financial claim.

Can someone confirm whether it's Black Friday today?
I seem to have missed out on 3 trillion emails, texts and adverts......FOMO.......not.......

Whilst I get where youre coming from, with so many "road closures" these days, it seems that you ignore it until it says "Access only" then you know that road you are on is the affected one.
Looking at your maps, it would appear the sign is primarily there for the Timmys and Bethany's whose mothers who can't walk them to school but must drive the 20 yards. :)

I thought it was now "Black November". That's what I see it advertised at on every single email I get every 5 mins of the day.

Just received a letter from DWP...
Your State Pension age is 67
Our records show you will reach State Pension age in August 2030
You do not need to contact us. We will send a letter 4 months before that date to tell you how to claim.....

Jesus H Christ........why are they telling me now that I'm going to get a letter in 4 years and 5 months..???
How many letters like this get sent t out every day?
How much does it all cost?

Yeah. I get that they just use the same generic pre-made signs and can't make bespoke ones every time. But 'Road Closed - no access to school' would have worked. 😄

1, To avoid you being able to claim in the future that you were not properly notified. (see WASPI women)
2, A few, I imagine.
3, Quite a bit, I imagine.

I have one year and four months to go - or so I've been told - quite a few times in recent years.
66-and-a-half for me.
You are paying a 6-month penalty for being a whippersnapper. ;)
But it will be even longer for other whippersnappers.

Seems to be standard practice across the country designed to confuse and irritate. @Bunkermagnet has the right idea.

I don’t know when Black Friday deals end and January sales start it’s like that all year round.

The fun challenge is trying to work out when DFS don’t have a sale on I would love to know how much one of their sofas cost normally so i know how much I have saved 😂

Obviously some strange new usage of the word "fun" I have come across before........
They're only trying to sell crud they haven't been able to sell in the last year because it's either crud of expensive crud....

Inept and inefficient companies asking for duplicate information that they already have. Don't ask me, ask your colleague who already has it 🤬. One company in particular is particularly awful on this front. Annoys me intensely.

Have you been asked to fill in sustainability stuff to "help" a company meet their 2030 net zero targets yet?

I have with regards to packaging. Not other stuff so far, as far as I can remember. Saying that, it becomes white noise filling in these forms so I may well have done and just not noticed.

I do wonder if anyone reads this guff? I'm tempted one time to give anti answers just to see if anyone picks up on it :ROFLMAO:
