Random Irritations

The local cricket area has started a Ladies Development league which is for ladies who are just starting the sport or returning so the wife and sis in law play for a local village team against all the other villages

There is a team from Luton who is smashing everyone

They turned up today - all fully kitted out very professional.

Warming up in the nets and you can see they had some bowlers that clearly been playing a while

So they batted first and put on a lot against the girls who all tried to bowl properly but everyone had a go at bowling

Then they bowled - first bowler paced out a significant run up and then proceeded to bowl 6 quick balls taking 4 clean wickets -

Then the next bowler was clearly throwing but their umpire continually ignored it , they just bowled two girls who it’s no doubt have been playing cricket for a while and two girls who just threw the ball - you can see why they are beating everyone and nowhere near any sort of development side

Not sure why they do it when there is no prize etc

@Arthur Wedge was there not another umpire who could have called the bowler who was throwing?

When my son was younger his team played another who had a player who clearly threw. It was impossible not to see it but their coach allowed it. Our coach had to have a word with their coach to take him off after an over, it was junior stuff and the procedure was that the player should not be spoken to or embarrassed. Thankfully he didn't get anyone out but should never have been put in that position.

“Our umpire” didn’t really know what to look for tbh

I mentioned it to the coach who said “they are just learning” - so asked about the two girls who clearly had be playing for years - he said they had only been playing for 3 weeks !!

Our coach mentioned it to them after that they will be speaking to league as it’s all clearly not in the spirit of what the league was about

You can't have throwing. For me, that's like kicking the ball out of the rough onto the fairway. They have to learn correctly, in the nets, and then get onto the pitch. Throwing is not learning.

Exactly 👍

It’s not great and seemingly their coach has been told by a few of the other coaches that they are throwing

Chucking in kids cricket could lead to an injury. How bad does it have to be before it gets stopped?😊
Problem is that 25% of test bowlers throw the ball, thanks to the officals of the game bending the rules to let Murali bowl in the ealry 90's. So now there is no definative line between bowling & throwing

His action was legal. He didn't bend his elbow but his was able to make an unusual movement of his shoulder.

Back in the day there was a concoction from hell called "Fiery Jack"
In my naive way I applied some to relieve a groin strain!
After about 5mins I lept in the bath to seek relief from this pure lava that was gently poaching my Max Walls
Jeez I remember that .
Took the skin off my knee once.

Could the good bowlers possibly be returning crickets after a spell out of the game? Could be a mismatch if one team has all new players and the other has several returning players.
