Got my first ever speeding ticket. Was going down the motorway at nearly midnight last Wednesday, the "smart" limit changed from 60 to 50, I start braking, but they've flashed me doing 57. Apparently I'm supposed to slam my brakes on in the middle of the M1. Oh well, praying I get one of the speed awareness things, but genuinely got no idea.

Apparently I'm supposed to slam my brakes on in the middle of the M1. Oh well, praying I get one of the speed awareness things, but genuinely got no idea.

There is a delay between changing the speed and activating the camera. Should have had enough time to slow. You actually got a ticket then ?

Yeah the letter came through. I guess I must have missed the first "50" then. Still annoying.

A potential prosecution for doing 57mph in a 50 limit? On a motorway? Really?

Notwithstanding most forces, with only one or two exceptions, still allow 10% + 2mph tolerance prior to acting, the vast majority of motorway cameras, at least in counties local to me, have traditionally set quite high thresholds simply because they do not have the staff to process all the work.

I can't believe the incompetence that the below is not already in place.....taken from the article linked above

I got one a few months back for 56mph in a 50mph limit on the M4.
I went on a Motorway Safety course, which is different from a Speed Awareness course.
I think it cost around £105 but no penalty points, thankfully, as I already have six of those little buggers on my licence!
