Random Irritations

Sorry, just to make sure I have this right...
Is BAT an abbreviation for some tunnel through a hillside to take the train line?
Or is it, as I suspect, a tunnel for the benefit of bats (the flying mammals)?

If the latter, it reminds of when I was working on a project for Network Rail and one of their managers was bemoaning all the wildlife regulations.
He said "the French have it easy - they just build their track in a straight line. If there's a rare newt in the way, they eat it" :ROFLMAO:

According to The Times, the cost equated in January, when the estimate was a mere £100m, to £300k per bat.

If only human life was given the same consideration.

The amount we seem to care about bats is ridiculous

When we built out control room we couldn't have a short cut built to the station because of the bats and had to put blinds on the windows that had a timer to close them at dusk

Decade later the blinds don't work and nobody cares anymore .. ridiculous state of affairs

Me and some of my work colleagues have a WhatsApp group chat where we discuss work related stuff and generally take the pee out of each other. It’s all light hearted stuff and absolutely nothing that I would class as close to the bone. There’s one particular engineer who doesn’t take any ribbing well at all, he goes very dark and and abusive at the drop of a hat sometimes. I’ve ignored most of his abusive comments in the past but last night crossed the line, I’m seriously considering reporting him to the management but…he’s quite obviously losing the plot, he got banned from staying in a particular hotel recently after an argument with the hotel manager, his work standard has plummeted and it looks like he’s on a fast track to a mental breakdown.
If I report him it could push him over the edge but at the same time I’m not his personal psychiatrist. Not sure what to do, our management team are renown for burying their head in the sand and we don’t have a HR department as such. I’m kind of hoping one of the other lads reports him to save me the hassle.

I was going to say the same thing. I'm still none the wiser on Paul Weller though. 🤷‍♂️
I googled Weller and couldn't find anything, then clicked on the Golf Random Irritations thread which just had "Colin Morikawa" as a post - then couldn't be bothered to find out why.

I know it the poster's own irritation but unless its specific, known or a link is attached then the whole thread could become a long list of names, I certainly could list quite a few.

I think the Collin Morikawa one was because he has swapped caddies again - although not sure why this would irritate the poster (unless he was the sacked caddie)

In a golf club, lovely, having a pre round coffee. They brought it out have a little chocolate, nice. Except, the chocolate was against the cup so it's become a melted mess in the wrapper ☹️. It's a proper 1st world problem but even so..... .

The one thing I can see in taking that action, is that it then opens up scrutiny of everything said in your Whatsapp group and thus it stops being just a private chat between a couple of colleagues.

The messages get deleted automatically after 24 hours iirc but like I said there’s nothing discussed that’s anywhere near contentious, it’s all just general work banter.

Can you not report someone anonymously? 😬

Have you thought about meeting him for a coffee/pint and just chatting with him? I know blokes don't like to talk about things and keep it all bottled in but maybe a quiet get together might get him to open up a bit. You have noticed that something may be bothering him so it is the right thing (but not an easy thing) to get him the help he probably needs.
Some people think this is a bit 'woke' and 'wimpy' but if you can prevent someone getting hurt (or worse) then do it.
