Random Irritations

4 weeks ago I bought a wedge....
Evri promptly lost it.
Got a refund so all's well
Got an email an hour ago I forming me that my parcel was out for delivery...today.
Got another one 10 minutes ago telling me it's been delivered
The picture is not of my house and the accompanying map shows its been delivered to a road that doesn't exist in my town.
And it certainly ain't here...that's if it even was the wedge..
How are these people still in business....?

Because businesses keep using them and we keep buying stuff from the businesses...

I've got a feeling that home delivery is going to reach breaking point in the not too distant future...too many delivery vans trying to get to too many places all at the same time as quickly as possible..result....chaos.

No idea what the answer is...maybe we return to High Street shopping perhaps...one way or the other - perhaps with companies doing deliveries to specific locations in localities. But then it's customer cars causing the problem - but at least it's customers in towns where towns need them. Or deliver to the nearest edge-of-town shopping centre - or if there isn't one crerate and edge of town drop-off/pick-up centre. Just feels then delivering stuff to everyone's doorstep feels unsustainable.

They already have this sort of thing with the Amazon lockers (other companies use similar) but one of the problems is that people are still too lazy to use them and want things in their hands straight away.

This is not aimed at Imurg :D

Delivery lockers or delivery drop off locations, ie a shop / petrol station etc, will increasingly be the future. You will pay a low price for delivery there, a premium price for delivery to home. This is largely set up now but the price differential is only marginal or non existent at the moment. Expect to see that difference increase. It's the logical step to release the pressure and reduce problems.

Chippenham Sainsburys - 137.9
Leigh Delamare Service (5 miles max) - 165.9

How motorway services get away with it, I will never know
If I paid for my fuel by the litre , it would would work out about £0.26 per litre 😜😎😎

That's obviously factoring fuel efficiency and cost Vs an average diesel car

Petrol at local Sainsbury's £1.35
In Lanzarote €1.05
That isn't a level playing field to be fair. That's down to govt duty. The fuel sites in this country though............

We are Morrisons heavy up here but they only compete within around a 2 mile radius I believe so their own fuel stations can be wildly different. Looking at a petrol station app, Morrisons sites alone have a 6p differential within this area. All loaded from the same site, same costs. They charge what they can, the days of supermarkets competing over fuel are long gone.

The BAT tunnel for HS2 estimated to cost £125,000,000. Correct I have not added 3 0’s by mistake
Sorry, just to make sure I have this right...
Is BAT an abbreviation for some tunnel through a hillside to take the train line?
Or is it, as I suspect, a tunnel for the benefit of bats (the flying mammals)?

If the latter, it reminds of when I was working on a project for Network Rail and one of their managers was bemoaning all the wildlife regulations.
He said "the French have it easy - they just build their track in a straight line. If there's a rare newt in the way, they eat it" :ROFLMAO:
