Random Irritations

A very different end to a lovely evening, sad rather than an irritation.

Out for a meal with friends. Part way through dessert a guy on another table starts to choke. The slap on the back doesn’t work. They shout for help. I go over and try the Heimlich manoeuvre without success. Tip him forward and give him a few hard ‘thumps’ to the back. The guy is unconscious at this point. Up comes his dentures and a fair bit of blood.

He slowly starts to come round but he’s not in great shape, there’s an ambulance on the way. Pulse is thready and he’s starting to look very pale, which is hard for a Spaniard, and he slips back into unconsciousness. We keep talking to him, trying to get a response, but I’m struggling to get a pulse - a few widely spaced beats then nothing, and then repeat.

Ambulance arrives, including a doc. A quick check and all hell breaks loose. Oxygen, monitoring, suction and then the defib. Chest compressions then more defib. Still flatlining on the monitor. Wait, a pulse… onto the stretcher and into the ambulance. A good 15 minutes before they move off but, thankfully, with its lights on. It gets 200m down the road and pulls in. Eventually it moves off with the lights off.

I’m knackered, flat. A quick brandy, pay the bill and home - last to leave at 9:45pm.

Sorry, head’s all over this morning….
That’s a tough one Brian, all you can do is your best, at least you gave him a chance.
Have another brandy mate ♥️

What a terrifying experience. Well done on assisting. You should be proud you stepped up in such harrowing circumstances. Sounds like without you, the ambulance would not have needed its lights on when departing the restaurant. Hope the guy in question makes a full recovery.

My take on it is that he didn't unfortunately 🙁

Football matches that could easily have been called off the night before instead of having to make a 2 1/2 hour round trip and waste a morning

We had a similar thing happen in Tenerife, fortunatley the lady did recover. But a dampener on the night, nobody could finish their meal, but th waitress still came round with the sweet, pudding menu.
And yes I still had my sticky toffee pudding with cream, ice cream and Irish coffe [ with brandy of course ]

Folks, it simply isn't possible to post about Donald Trump without it being political. You can try dressing it up but it is what it is. It's clearly something people want to post about but not on this forum I'm afraid.

Thread tidied up. If people keep posting then warnings will handed out, and that would be a really silly reason to get a warning 🤷🏻

I think we were all traumatised by it to be honest and needed to confirm our own feelings.

I don't disagree with you but sadly we can't isolate incidents as the issues are constant. Whilst most may agree there will be some who like him and his policies and the political disputes begin.

Also if we allow Trump chat, why not Starmer, Badenoch, Farage etc. If we don't maintain consistency then we are open to claims of hypocrisy.

It's a shame but it is what is.

Just looking into my Mum’s car park accident. She has a 2024 Toyota and this should have full ADAS with pre collision warning.. just asking if it has intervention because her car carried on moving and impacted with 2 other cars.
As an engineer I would have thought the whole system would have prevented this, after all this would have been part of our design requirements sign off.
I have told her to hold firm and make them investigate Toyota and its functionality. As customers we pay a lot now for cars and this is one of those cost drivers .. so it has to work 99.9% of the time and when it doesn’t the manufacturers should be liable.

Completely understood I was just thinking forumers had forgotten this as it’s pretty much unprecedented in western leadership.. but I think it’s indicative of big business behaviour still. Having experienced HR try to brow beat me and when diplomatically pointing out to them that they were not following their process and legal process they just carried on. So from a non political perspective I saw this as behaviour that we still have in large corporations.

Guys, the Mods don’t make the rules, they just do what GM want.

The last thing they need is a few wise guys making smart ass remarks about stuff they have no control over.

So back off, the forum is what it is, it isn’t going to change, so don’t bother trying. If you don’t like it, tough, move on 👍

Folks.

If anyone wants to discuss moderation decisions, complain about them or in any way query them, you know the guidelines. Send an email to the site admin.

Any more public discussion will result in warnings to those who think they are above GM’s site guidelines.

Enough please.

I didnt think all the auto collision controls were active below a certain speed. I know my VW Transporter doesnt play it until about 20/30 is in play, and my Mazda CX5 is about 10-15 mph.
However, both brands say it's to reduce a collision and possible damage, not stop it.
